Try New Things: TNT Taster Day

Hills Art Centre | Monday 27th October | 10–5pm

At the heart of Try New Things CIC is a commitment to pushing boundaries and testing new ideas that haven’t been done before in the region.

We collaborate with artists, technologists, historians, and local communities to deliver interactive projects that spark curiosity, inspire learning, and foster social connections.

Our approach blends hands-on participation with digital innovation — including AR, VR, AI, and other emerging technologies — ensuring activities are accessible and engaging for everyone. We also focus on heritage projects, using technology to document stories, repurpose old tech, and support digital literacy, particularly for older generations.

By capturing contemporary culture as it happens and fostering collaboration between creatives, businesses, and communities, TNT makes creativity an everyday experience for everyone.

Try New Things (TNT)

At the heart of our work is a commitment to pushing boundaries and testing new ideas that haven’t been done before in the region. We collaborate with artists, technologists, historians, and local communities to deliver interactive projects that spark curiosity, inspire learning, and foster social connections.

Our approach blends hands-on participation with digital innovation, ensuring our activities are accessible and engaging for a wide range of audiences.

One of our key focuses is design and digital projects, including emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI). By integrating these tools into creative workshops, exhibitions, and public interventions, we enable people to explore new forms of storytelling, artistic expression, and community engagement.

We’re also passionate about heritage projects, using technology to document and share stories that might otherwise be lost, from salvaging and repurposing old tech to collecting personal histories and supporting digital literacy, particularly among older generations. By bridging the gap between past and present, we make history more tangible and relevant to modern audiences.

A unique aspect of Try New Things CIC is our rapid response collection initiatives, inspired by institutions like the V&A, where we capture contemporary culture as it happens. This allows us to respond quickly to social, cultural, or technological shifts, keeping our projects timely, creative, and community-led.

Beyond our own initiatives, we actively support collaboration between creatives, businesses, and community organisations, fostering partnerships that amplify the reach and sustainability of cultural activities in Sunderland.

Ultimately, Try New Things CIC is about breaking routine, encouraging exploration, and making creativity an everyday experience for everyone. By embracing experimentation and collaboration, we aim to shape a more vibrant, inclusive cultural landscape for Sunderland and beyond.
