We are delighted to invite you to join us for the second opening of the ATHENAEUM CLUB, a week long exhibition showcasing a curated selection of contemporary visual art, furniture, glass, ceramics and print.
This exclusive event brings together collectors, connoisseurs, and creatives to view and acquire new, collectable works.
The event marks an exciting new direction for our gallery - forging meaningful connections between contemporary art and adjacent creative industries such as design, interiors, and architecture.
These cross-disciplinary collaborations are rare in the North East, and signal a growing ambition to position the region as a site of
cultural innovation and exchange.

A huge thank you to the William Leech charity for making a summer arts school at the JMC possible! So many creative young people living in the west end. A full week packed with drawing skills, automatic drawing, stencil making, spray painting and much more. Thanks to all those who turned up for the end of summer exhibition at the JMC! All of this wouldn’t be possible with out funding from a brilliant charity and the aspiration of artists Thom Heap and Graham Dolphin.

With thanks to the Reece Foundation. This week the children have investigated screws and how a turning force can be converted into a linear force. We talked about the theory behind an inclined plane wrapped around the cylinder of the screw and how using this can prove useful in many practices. Our main example was building a vice using screws and how using screws reduces the amount of effort force we have to apply to the vice, however, the distance we have to turn the screw increases. We related this to an overarching idea we’ve seen before in our classes of the trade off between mechanical advantage and distance.

The kids used adjustable inclined planes to investigate the relationship between work, force and distance, increasing the distance their car had to travel but decreasing the force needed to pull them and the application of this in real world constructions. With thanks to !!!

We thrilled to be adding a new engineering club to the exciting range of free children’s cultural and educational weekend clubs on offer at the John Marley Centre. This club has been exceptionally popular since we launched it and we thank our funder Reece Foubdation for their generous support. Access to aspirational clubs is imperative everywhere but we’re so proud that with thanks to Reece we now have two more in the west end.
