Last week at our weekly engineering session, we discussed how engineers get set briefs like designers and how we need to follow instructions and make plans diligently, we then looked at creating circuits to solve real world problems and finished off by discussing examples of low diligence in engineering and the disastrous effects it can have in large scale implications. It’s once again, with thanks to the phenomenal REECE Foundation that these sessions are possible!

Last week children at LEGO, Philosophy and Architecture, explored Longaberger Basket Building the Crooked House in Sopot and the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna and asked ‘does a building have to look like a building? Each week it’s an absolute pleasure to watch the children explore fantastic buildings around the world and understand what their relationships to these buildings and places are. These sessions ask children to consider not just ‘how’ to build, but ‘why’ we build. All of this has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the REECE Foundation!

Last week we discussed the foundations of what an engineer is and how an engineer identifies problems and constructs solutions. We also explored the concept that we have to trial our ideas and failure in exploration was just opportunities to learn from our mistakes. We then concluded by developing a few hypothesis’s and testing them to see what we could learn with our circuits.

A huge thank you to the William Leech charity for making a summer arts school at the JMC possible! So many creative young people living in the west end. A full week packed with drawing skills, automatic drawing, stencil making, spray painting and much more. Thanks to all those who turned up for the end of summer exhibition at the JMC!
