We are open at King Street Hall Kirkwall now the sun is out, come along for a Fair Trade bite to eat and bring in a repair or do some printing!

We're in Kirkwall this Saturday 19th September and we're being joined by our friends from Regrow who are running a textile printing upcycling workshop! Bring along a t-shirt, tote bag or other plain cotton/linen item to print on (details in the image). And more of our friends, from Orkney Fair Trade Group are providing refreshments (it's why we're a Repair Cafe, not just a Repair Event).

We'll see you at King Street Halls from 10:00am-12:30pm.

As ever, bring along your broken household items or textiles and our team will help you with a repair or give you advice on what to do next. Please bring your items by 11:45am at the latest so we have time to look at them.

Got a bike you need to dust off? Bring it along to our next repair café on Saturday 18th July at Stromness Community Centre and our lovely repair team will check it over so you can get cycling for the summer!

The next Repair Cafe pop-up in Stromness will be offering a special event bike check service with simple repairs. If your bike has been languishing in the shed since last year, or your child's bike is being passed between siblings bring it in. Wobbly seats, squeaky wheels, wonky mudguards - we'll take a look. If there's a simple repair we can do, we'll help you with it. If it's something complicated, we'll explain the problem so you can take it to one of Orkney's bike repair services and tell them what's wrong.

As well as that, we'll be offering our usual repairs of household items and textiles (subject to repairer availability - check Facebook nearer the time for any updates).

We'll be at Stromness Community Centre on 18 July from 10:00am. Last check in for items (and bikes) is at 11:45am.

I was delighted to lodge a parliamentary motion last week in celebration of Repair Cafe Orkney's first anniversary. This fantastic initiative, led by Anne Sayer and Dan Wright, hosts monthly pop-ups where individuals can bring in household items to be repaired while learning those repair skills themselves, promoting sustainability in a social setting.

In its first year alone, the Repair Café helped divert hundreds of kilograms of items from waste streams by repairing clothes, bikes, toys, and more. I would encourage anyone interested in utilising this great community resource to stop by a future session in Stromness or St Margaret's Hope. Congratulations again to all those involved in the Repair Café on reaching this milestone.

We were delighted to welcome Liam for Orkney 2026 and Alistair Carmichael MP - Orkney and Shetland to celebrate our first birthday on Saturday at Stromness Community Centre! Thanks to Argo's Bakery for making our cake!
