🌳 This Saturday – Community Orchard event at Attey’s Field 🌳

We’re really looking forward to getting together this weekend and would love to see lots of friendly faces. All are welcome to join us this Saturday, 7 February, at Attey’s Field to help shape Snitterfield’s new community orchard and get stuck into some clearing.

If you’re planning to help out, please come prepared:

πŸ‘’ Sturdy footwear – boots or wellingtons
πŸ§₯ Rainproof coat – just in case
🧀 Gloves – to protect against thorns and brambles
πŸͺ΄ A spade or fork, if you have one

πŸš— Important: There is no parking at Attey’s Field, so please plan to walk from the village.

Whether you want to share ideas, lend a hand, or just see what’s happening, everyone is very welcome. Let’s get this orchard off to a great start 🌱

🌳 New Community Orchard – volunteers wanted! 🌳

You may have spotted a newly fenced area in the bottom corner of Attey’s Field πŸ‘€ This sunny, south-facing slope is about to become Snitterfield’s new community orchard – a sheltered, fertile space perfect for fruit trees 🍎🍐

Now we’d love your ideas! What fruit trees should we plant? How should the orchard look?
πŸ‘‰ Join us at Attey’s Field on Saturday 7 February to see the site, share your thoughts, and help shape this exciting new community space.

Feeling hands-on? πŸ’ͺ We’ll also be doing some clearing – removing brambles and nettles so the trees can grow and flourish along with checking trees planted in the last couple of years, replacing any that have not made it.

If you’re able to help, please bring thick gloves and a spade.

Whether you want to chat, plan, or get stuck in, everyone is welcome. Come along and be part of something that will grow for years to come 🌱

Got a question or want to know more before coming along? Just drop Snitterfield Tree Action Group a line at [email protected]

A big thank you to the wonderful hard-working volunteers who came yesterday morning and cleared Atteys Field of Ragwort ready for cutting. Their work will help maintain the wildflower meadow in Atteys Field to improve biodiversity.

If you fancied joining the group but were not available this weekend keep a look out as we will organise another working group soon! 😊

A final call for volunteers from Snitterfield Tree Action Group (STAG) for tomorrow morning. We will be doing two fun jobs at Atteys field as part of improving the biodiversity of the field and helping the new trees that were planted earlier this year.
If we have the same turn out for this as we did for the tree planting both jobs will be done in under an hour.

The first job is to spread hay around the tree to suppress the weeds and retain moisture in the soil through the summer. No tools necessary.
The second is to rogue the field. This is simply forming a line across the field, then walking down the field pulling out any ragwort that you find on the way as you cross the field. Ragwort is toxic to animals and so needs to be removed before the field is made into hay. Please bring a pair of gloves.

We’ll be meeting at the field at 10AM on Saturday (27Jul24)

Hope you can make it!

Thank you to teveryone who joined the tree planting on Sunday in Atteys Field. πŸ™ You were awesome! πŸ‘πŸ‘

We planted a total of 400 hedge plants and had lots of fun too!

It will be wonderful to see the young plants come into leaf in a few weeks and to see the hedge grow and, in a few years, provide habitat for lots of wildlife. πŸ˜ƒ
