Once upon a time, a young couple named Michael and Emily set off on the journey of a lifetime. Freshly engaged and deeply in love, they arrived at Heathrow Airport filled with excitement, ready to board the legendary Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde for a glamorous trip to New York.
As they stepped into the elegant cabin, they were immediately captivated by the luxurious interior. The seats were wonderfully soft and inviting, upholstered in beautiful fabrics whose colours and patterns seemed to capture both sophistication and warmth. During the flight, neither Michael nor Emily could quite settle. They laughed at themselves as they repeatedly shifted, fidgeted, and adjusted their positions, not because they were uncomfortable, but because they were delighted by the unusual sensation of travelling faster than the speed of sound while relaxing in such remarkable surroundings.
The Atlantic seemed to disappear beneath them. Before long, the skyline of New York City appeared on the horizon, glittering in the afternoon sunlight.
Reluctantly leaving the comfort of Concorde’s seats, they made their way into Manhattan. That evening they enjoyed an unforgettable dinner at one of the city’s finest restaurants. Crystal glasses sparkled beneath soft lighting, and the tables were dressed with exquisite ceramics whose elegant designs perfectly complemented the refined atmosphere. The meal was magnificent, but what Emily remembered most was the way Michael looked at her across the candlelit table.
After dinner they retired to an exclusive luxury hotel high above the city streets. Their suite offered breathtaking views across New York. Thousands of lights stretched to the horizon, while the famous skyline stood proudly against the night sky. The windows were framed by beautifully designed curtains whose subtle patterns added a touch of artistry to the room.
Standing together by the glass, they watched the city below. It was a night filled with romance, dreams, and promises for the future. Several months later those promises became reality when they married in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
Not long after their wedding, Michael and Emily returned home to their beloved town of Stratford-upon-Avon. One rainy afternoon, while visiting the Stratford Heritage Exhibition at Harvard House, celebrating notable residents, they discovered something astonishing.
Many of the fabrics, ceramics, and decorative designs on display had been created by Tibor Reich, an internationally acclaimed designer who had lived and worked in Stratford-upon-Avon.
As they studied the exhibits, recognition slowly dawned. The luxurious fabrics they had admired aboard Concorde, the elegant ceramics from their memorable New York dinner, and even the beautiful curtains in their hotel suite all bore the unmistakable influence of Tibor Reich’s creative vision.
They looked at one another and smiled.
Their most treasured memories—the flight across the Atlantic, the romantic dinner, the spectacular hotel room, and the beginning of their married life—had all been quietly touched by the work of a talented designer from their own hometown.
From that day forward, every time they walked through the streets of Stratford-upon-Avon, they felt a special sense of pride. The world had seemed very large when they crossed the ocean on Concorde, yet somehow their greatest discovery had been waiting for them right at home.

THE STRATFORD SOCIETY’S ~ MAY TALK
Monday 6pm, 18th May 2026
The White Swan Hotel, Stratford upon Avon, CV37 6NH
“An update on the Tiddington Archaeology Dig”
With speaker Susan Porter.
Susan Porter will talk about Archaeology Warwickshire's excavations around Tiddington Road, and the discovery of a Saxon cemetery and Iron Age pit group. The site appears to have been occupied continuously from the Middle Iron Age to the Middle “Saxon” period (at least 1000 years). There is clear evidence of feasting, trade and communication, “ritual”, life, and death. The location is close to the ford over the Avon used by the Salt Road from Droitwich, active from the Iron Age and through the Roman period. The combination of burial intensity, material culture (esp. evidence for literacy), location and documentary sources all suggest the location of a previously unknown minster site.
