One of Two call outs today!! Our first call out was to persons possibly in difficulty on an inflatable, when arrived on scene casualties had managed to make their way back to shore.

The second call out was for paddle boarder in difficulty, after falling off board and unable to get back on.. we kept a visual of the casualty and guided Port William Inshore Rescue Service to the location, casualty was recovered to the nearest slip & was provided casualty care on scene by our teams HM Coastguard - Drummore HM Coastguard - Portpatrick Ballantrae Coastguard Rescue Team Stranraer coastguard Until he was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The weather conditions in the location of both these incidents was not ideal, with a strong off-shore wind and inflatables are not suitable for open sea & those conditions!! Please remember to check, wind speed & direction, tides etc and consider appropriate clothing such as wetsuit, although the weather is warm the sea is not, please ensure a method of communicating in an emergency, vhf or mobile phone in waterproof case! And most importantly please wear a lifejacket or PFD.

Last night, the Youth Work D&G received a lesson about essential water safety, as part of a multi agency initiative in Stranraer, involving , (PSYV), SFRS Dumfries & Galloway, and RNLI.
The session focused on reinforcing key safety messages, including the dangers associated with tombstoning and the significant risks of entering open water, particularly the potentially fatal effects of cold water shock.
Participants were also advised on how to call for help in an emergency.
The session concluded with a Q&A discussion to confirm understanding of water related hazards and to reinforce the 'Float to Live' technique, should anyone find themselves in difficulty in the water.

🚨 First Call Out for Our Training Duo 🚨

This evening our team was tasked to reports of an overdue hydro boarder after a vehicle was discovered parked in a local car park, raising concerns for the occupant’s welfare.

🔎Following enquiries and coordination, the casualty was thankfully located safe and well at home.

📟This incident also marked the first call out for two of our newest recruits, giving them valuable experience working alongside the team.

🌊 A reminder to everyone heading onto or near the water: always let someone know your plans, expected return time and where you intend to be. Carry a means of communication where possible and if your plans change; remember to let others know.
