YOPEY art for care homes

YOPEY art for care homes During Covid-19 pandemic, young people are making art the YOPEY charity is sharing with care homes t The name YOPEY stands for Young People of the Year.

YOPEY has been 'revealing, recognising and rewarding' young unsung heroes as positive role models since 2005. YOPEY does this by getting positive publicity in the media for young people who do good work in the community. The main YOPEY initiatives during the pandemic are:
• ‘I want to help care home residents’ where young people send letters via YOPEY to care home residents;
• ‘YOPEY Virtual Vari

ety Shows’ where young people contribute acts to shows for elderly residents to watch;
• ‘YOPEY art for care homes’ where young people make artworks for display in care homes. There may be other initiatives by YOPEY and your child may want to take part in an initiative not mentioned here. But all the initiatives have the same aim – to make care home residents happy during this difficult time. All our initiatives use similar methods such as:
• Everything young people make for the care home residents is sent to YOPEY digitally and, after our work on it by this charity, transmitted to care homes digitally. This is to avoid transmitting the virus on the surface of anything made by the young people and touched by other parties along the way. Files up to 20mb can be sent by email to [email protected]. Larger files should be sent by using Mailbigfile or another free file transfer service on your web browser,
• A work submitted to one initiative may appear in another initiative. Eg artwork maybe seen in a variety show.
• For each initiative we will be doing reports for the media about any aspects of the scheme that YOPEY considers newsworthy, and inviting media organisations to do their own reports. It is part of this charity’s charter that we actively promote young people’s charitable and good acts with the elderly and we do this through publicity, across all media, including newspapers, radio and TV, the internet and social media. YOPEY Virtual Variety Shows are publicly available on YouTube. You are consenting to your child appearing in such publicity. Examples of such publicity are on the 2nd page of this agreement. PRIVACY NOTICE

YOPEY will collect and use the personal data of your child and yourself, such as names, ages of the children, addresses and telephone numbers. We will use the personal data to help run the YOPEY initiatives that your child wishes to join. We may share the personal data with the care homes, the media, funders of this charity and awards schemes that wish to recognise young volunteers. We may also share the data with our sister company Young People of the Year limited. Most of the data will be stored on our computers. Within 3 months of the end of the pandemic, YOPEY will erase your child’s personal data, but we will retain and promote for up to 10 years the works we have created with your child. Publicity about these works may remain in the traditional media and on social media for as long as those bodies retain such publicity.

The charity YOPEY is focusing on setting up and running 'YOPEY Dementia Befriender Community Partnerships' between teenage schoolchildren and care homes near their schools. We mainly set up new partnerships in the East of England and mostly work with sixth-forms, although we have worked with other school years.

Posts to this page about the art YOPEY Befrienders made during the pandemic for locked-down residents to enjoy are becoming less frequent.
