Two Vernon Lodge freemasons have recently undertaken their third cycling challenge in support of the Worcester Provincial Charity Festival. This was to cycle from the Lodge rooms in Stourport on Severn and visit each of the other Masonic Halls in Worcestershire. A total of 147 miles. Given the terrain, lots of hills, time of year and the weather, it was decided to do this in three stages.
The First leg was to Tenbury Wells then Malvern and finishing at Worcester, A total of 69 miles.

The next leg started at Worcester and visited Evesham, Redditch and Kings Heath Masonic halls covering a further 52 miles, with an overnight stay in Birmingham. Then it was on the the final leg, Northfield, Halesowen, Stourbridge and Kidderminster, finally finishing the day after 2 punctures and dodging the wind and rain after cycling the final 38 miles. A grand Total of over 350 miles over the three challenges.

A fantastic effort by the Worshipful Master of Severn Lodge - WBro. Riccardo Sorano, along with W.Bro Ben Maffei, W.Bro Matt Davies And Bro Tom Minard have climbed the summit of the Three Peaks over the last few days.

Setting out with their back packs, water bottles and Just Giving Page they had set a target of £1,000 which they would then donate the 2022 fund.

Like the Grand old Duke of York, they were half way up, up, half way down and down three times over Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike.

As of this moment they have raised an amazing £2,140 and that figure keeps moving so it's not too late to add to it!

Well done Brothers an amazing job well done!!!

4 Brave and hardworking Worcestershire Freemasons are currently this moment undertaking the arduous task of climbing the 3 peaks to raise money for the 2022 fund.

As seen from the picture above this is no mean feat and will take them between the 12th, 13th and 14th of August to climb the 11,178ft of all three peaks not forgetting the other 11,178 to get back down them again!

If you would like to support these heroic travellers please use the link below which will then help them collect the monies to then pass on to the 2022 fund!

Go on lads! You can do it!

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the Festival 2022 Regatta and Family Fun Day.

Much beer, wine, food and ice cream was partaken in the heat of the sunshine whilst the laughter could be heard of people winning or losing at the coconut shy, the band rocking away on the stage or the Cox's cries to get the teams to row faster!

It was plain to see how much hard work had gone into pulling the event together and those who attended were vocal with their thanks for the efforts.

The Duck Race bought in the following winners:

1st Place - Ken Prosser

2nd Place - John Gripton

3rd Place - Nicki Sheppard

More photos of the event are available in the Galley

A couple of years ago Worcestershire were contacted by a Freemason Golf Professional, from Vale Royal Abbey GC, Northwich. His intention was to create a National Masonic Golf Championship. Recognising this would be a fantastic thing to have but also cognisant of the magnitude of the task, The Committee of the Worcestershire Masonic Golf Society, took the initiative to establish a Midlands Masonic Golf Championship. Hoping that this could be mirrored around the country, culminating in a National Competition derived from the several Regional Competitions. Thus simplifying the task.

Fired up with this, contact was made to the following Provinces; Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Northants & Huntingdonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. Including ourselves making this a 10 Province Championship. The response has been extremely positive and the event is going to happen on Tuesday 26 July at Bromsgrove Golf Centre.

It will be 10 teams of 4 competing for the Trophy. That in itself is worthy of a mention as it was generously donated by W.Bro. Paul Battle. Also delighted to inform everyone that it will be known as the Midlands Masonic Golf Championship (MMGC), "Midland Masonic Golf Battle Jug". Unanimously agreed by all 10 Provinces.

This is going to be a fabulous day of golf and so exciting, as the inaugural event within the Province of Worcestershire. This will become an annual event and the host will move to the other Provinces in alphabetical order.

The Worcester chapter of widows sons are supporting the warriors community foundation dementia charity, and today attended the kick off of their jubilee celebrations.

THE Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations kicked off as a group of bikers rode into Worcester in support of a Jubilee charity party for people with dementia.

The Widows Son's Worcestershire chapter is a Freemason biker group, which is supporting the Worcester Warriors Community Trust's work with dementia.

The Bikers arrived at the stadium at 2pm, making their way over to where the celebrations were being held to meet everyone.

Andy Philpott, President Worcestershire Chapter Widows Sons MBA, said: "We are a group of Freemasons and a large part of what we do is charity. We have chosen the Worcester Warriors Community Trust as our charity of the year, specifically the dementia group."

"Dementia is close to many of our hearts and it's such a worthwhile charity. I contacted Carol and we were able to arrange us heading down the bikes, having a chat with people and letting them see the bikes."

"We have a great collection of styles, lots are Harley-Davidson's and some with sidecars as well. We are really happy with how it turned out."

Many of the attendees at the event were stepping out from under the gazebos to come and look at the bikes, where the group were happily answering any questions and chatting with those in attendance.

The bikers also took part in a cheque presentation on behalf of the Chapter.

Carol Hart, CEO of the Warriors Community Foundation, said: "The event has been amazing, we have a regular dementia cafe here at Sixways Stadium every Wednesday from 10.30 to 12.

"We just wanted to put on a jubilee event for those that are suffering with and living with dementia as well as their carers.

"We have 80 people who attend our cafes on a regular basis as well as lots of our partners who support the work that we do.

"For a lot of people, this will be the only jubilee event they will be able to get to throughout the festivities so it's been lovely to see everybody having such a good time."

Now here is a summer social event designed to delight and at the same time, help to fountain Festival 2022 to a successful conclusion.

It’s a garden party on Sunday 10th July starting at 2.30pm, at the wonderful Stanway House and Garden, by kind permission of the 13th Earl of Weymss & March, Lord Neidpath.

In the delightful grounds surrounding the magnificent sprawling Jacobean manor is the world’s highest gravity-fed fountain which reaches 300ft. It is also Europe’s second highest fountain after the Jet d’Eau in Geneva, Switzerland.

The fountain will be worked specially for the event and close up, it’s a sight not to be missed (making sure you are upwind of it!).

In the grounds is a tythe barn if the weather happens to be inclement. Delights on offer include tea with buttered scones and strawberry jam, his Lordship’s ‘stable of racing ducks’ as well as music from Badsey Brass Band, to say nothing of the fountain! There’ll be a bar, too, which includes Stanway’s own real ale.

It’s only £10 per ticket – you can bring a picnic to make the most of the afternoon. There’s ample car parking.

The event is being organised by the ever-inventive Charity Steward of Elmley Castle Lodge 6247 – to book tickets please contact Peter at [email protected]
