A massive thank you to MFC Foundation for hosting another fantastic dance at the Riverside. 💃🕺

While the dancing is always brilliant, there is so much more than just getting on the dance floor. They’re about catching up with friends, having great conversations, sharing plenty of laughs, and simply enjoying life together.

Many of our dancers bring along snacks and treats for their tables to share, creating an even greater sense of friendship and community. Others were busy admiring and comparing their lovely fingernails, with plenty of compliments and laughter along the way!

At Middlesbrough FC it's also about reminiscing about past footballers and unforgettable memories.

In it’s important to recognise how much our dances mean. Bringing people together, creating connections, and providing opportunities to socialise can make a real difference. Sometimes it’s not the dancing that's the highlight but the conversations, the friendships and the feeling of belonging. 💙

👋A very warm welcome to Redcar Community Choir as the newest member of the Dementia Friendly Community of Redcar and Cleveland!

We are absolutely delighted to welcome the choir into our growing network of organisations committed to making Redcar and Cleveland a more dementia-friendly place for everyone , especially in

One of the choir's members, was our keynote speaker at our last Dementia Friendly Community Celebration Event. She shared her powerful and moving story of caring for her mum and her brother, both of whom live with dementia.

She spoke about how finding dementia-friendly activities transformed their lives.

After discovering Tea Cups and Tunes at Daisy Maes Vintage Tea Room and later joining our weekly dances, she and her mum found friendship, support, encouragement and joy through music and dancing. She described these groups as "a godsend" and "the best place" – somewhere she could connect with others who understood the challenges and rewards of caring.

She also told us how joining her local choir brought a new source of happiness into her life, helping her make friends, build confidence and enjoy singing.

"Having people… committed to supporting carers and those with dementia, makes our journey that little bit easier."

We are delighted that the Choir are now the singing lead for Teacups and Tunes which is on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at Daisy-Mae's Vintage Tea Room from 10.30am- 11.30am.🎶

A wonderful activity to alleviate loneliness for those with dementia and their families.

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week 💙

Loneliness can affect anyone, but for people living with dementia and those who care for them, it can be particularly challenging. Changes in memory, communication and confidence can sometimes lead to feelings of isolation, making it harder to stay connected with friends, family, and the wider community.

For loved ones and carers, the demands of supporting someone with dementia can also create feelings of loneliness, especially when they have to make so many personal sacrifices.

That's why opportunities to come together, share experiences, and build meaningful connections are so important. Activities that bring people together—whether through music, dance, conversation, or shared interests—can help reduce feelings of isolation, boost wellbeing, and remind people that they are not alone on their journey.

Watching these two ladies enjoying a dance together is a wonderful reminder of the joy, friendship, and connection that can be found when people have the opportunity to engage with others through music.

Together, we can help create communities where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected 💙

Another great Dementia Information Session was delivered today as part of our ongoing series of face-to-face sessions with Middlesbrough Council Council staff.

Today’s session was attended by colleagues from Customer Services, helping to increase awareness and understanding of dementia among staff who are often the first point of contact for residents seeking support and information.

It is so important that frontline council staff who deal with customer enquiries have a greater understanding of dementia, enabling them to recognise when someone may need additional support and helping to ensure our services are as accessible and inclusive as possible.

A huge thank you to the The Live Well Centre for generously providing the space to host these sessions.

Together, we can help make our communities more dementia friendly. 💙

As we come to the end of Carers Week, many of us will be returning to work tomorrow.

Not all of us will have had a restful weekend.

Many of your work colleagues will have spent their time supporting loved ones, often stepping in to give another family member a much-needed break.

Looking after someone living with dementia is a 24/7 role. There are no days off, no weekends away from caring, and often no break unless someone offers to help.

So, as we head back into the workplace tomorrow, if you know a colleague who is caring for a loved one, please go easy on them.

☕ Make them a cup of tea.
💙 Ask them how they are—and really listen to the answer.
😊 Be patient if they seem tired or distracted.
🤝 Offer support rather than judgement.
📅 Be flexible where you can.
👏 Acknowledge the incredible job they are doing.
💬 Check in regularly, not just when they seem to be struggling.
🌟 Remember that a small act of kindness can make a huge difference.

Many carers carry responsibilities that are unseen by others. A little understanding, compassion and patience can help lighten the load.

Looking after our colleagues is an important part of creating a caring, dementia-friendly community where people feel valued, supported and understood. 💙

💙 Carers Week 2026 💙

Supporting carers goes hand in hand with supporting those living with dementia. Carers are such an important part of their loved one’s life, often providing care, encouragement, companionship and advocacy every single day.

By helping communities better understand dementia, we also shine a light on the realities of being a dementia carer—the challenges, the rewards, and the importance of feeling supported and understood.

As part of Carers Week, we asked some of the wonderful carers and family members who attend our dances what good support means to them. Their words remind us why creating welcoming, inclusive communities matters so much.

🎥 Watch our video to hear directly from carers about what makes a difference in their lives.

To all our wonderful dementia carers: thank you for everything you do. You are seen, valued and appreciated 💙

💙 What can you do this Carers Week?

Why not join us in supporting unpaid carers across South Tees by signing the South Tees Carers Pledge 2026?

We’re proud to provide activities that not only benefit people living with dementia, but also create valuable opportunities for their loved ones and carers to connect, chat and support one another. We know that caring can sometimes feel isolating, which is why we’re always listening, offering support and helping to point carers in the right direction when they need it.

This Carers Week, let’s work together to build more carer-friendly communities across South Tees. By signing the pledge, you’re helping to recognise, value and support the thousands of unpaid carers who make such a difference every day.

📚 We are delighted to welcome Middlesbrough Central Library to Dementia Friendly Middlesbrough!📚

Libraries play such an important role in our communities. They are trusted hubs for information, learning, connection, and support, helping people access the knowledge and resources they need at every stage of life.

The library promotes the Reading Well for Dementia collection, which provides valuable books and resources for people living with dementia, their families, friends, and carers. Access to reliable information about dementia is essential for those supporting loved ones, helping them better understand the condition and navigate the challenges that can come with it.

It’s also fantastic that Middlesbrough Libraries offer a Books on Wheels service for people who are unable to visit the library, including those with caring responsibilities or mobility challenges. The service delivers books and audiobooks directly to your home, ensuring everyone can continue to enjoy reading and access important information.

To get started, the team will chat with you about your reading or listening preferences and then provide regular deliveries tailored to your interests.
