Well done KU Stockton for making the lifesaving device available 24/7 ❤️🙌⚡️

You might notice we’ve got a new defibrillator on the outside wall of KU this week. We’ve had one in the venue for a few years now but we want our neighbours and public to know that it’s now accessible at all hours and not just when our doors are open.

These are some things we hope we’ll never have to make use of but ultimately it could help save someone from serious harm 🤞❤️‍🩹

These 4 people each had their life ahead of them each died unnecessarily. We are supporting this petition for Population cardiac screening for every young person when they reach age 14 years. The screening should be undertaken with a review of family history and electrocardiogram (ECG) followed up where necessary with echocardiogram (heart scan). 12 people aged 35 and under die suddenly from heart conditions in the UK every week. Many show no symptoms and many could be saved by screening. We urge the Government and UKNSC to introduce ECG screening at age 14 and launch a national awareness campaign to stop these needless deaths.
Please sign this petition, and share for awareness ❤️

We’re incredibly proud to share that CPAD has been nominated for a BBC Tees Make a Difference Award - Community Group Category 💚

Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate us — this recognition belongs to so many our amazing volunteers, guardians, committee, supporters, and all who’ve attended our awareness events, donated, and believed in our lifesaving mission 💚

To be recognised in this way is an honour, but knowing our community feels we’ve made a positive difference is the greatest reward of all 🥰

Together, we’re helping keep hearts beating in the community 💚

The recent news involving Christian Eriksen is a powerful reminder that defibrillators save lives.

After surviving a cardiac arrest in 2021, Eriksen was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD). Reports indicate that his ICD responded appropriately during a recent medical incident, helping to protect him when it mattered most.

Every second counts in a cardiac emergency. Whether it is a public access defibrillator or an implanted device, access to life-saving treatment can make all the difference.

Join our campaign and help raise awareness of the importance of defibrillators in communities, workplaces, schools and sports venues: https://loom.ly/Pf70Nr4

On a quiet Sunday evening in Buncrana, a family’s world changed in an instant. At 5:07pm on Sunday, 3rd May, 2026, a gentleman named Iain suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while visiting Buncrana.

For most people, a cardiac arrest outside of hospital can be fatal within minutes, but on this day, everything that needed to happen, happened.

Ordinary people became lifesavers. Iain’s wife, Jayne, immediately called for help. Nearby
campervan owners stepped forward, raising the alarm with the National Ambulance Service and started CPR. A local man then assisted, continuing the life-saving efforts. They didn't hesitate. They didn't wait. They acted.

At the same time, Buncrana Community First Responders were alerted by the National
Ambulance Service. Within just two minutes of receiving the call, responders were on scene. An
AED was immediately placed on Iain. CPR continued. Two shocks were delivered.

Then came the moment everyone hopes for, Iain began to show signs of life.
Responders provided rescue ventilations to support his breathing and remained by his side,
monitoring and caring for him until the National Ambulance Service arrived.
From there, Iain received specialist post-resuscitation care in hospital.

Just 19 days later, he walked back through his own front door.
Home to his wife. Home to his family. Home to his life.

Today, Iain is recovering well and adjusting to life with his newly fitted internal defibrillator, but he knows that without the actions of those around him that evening, he may not be here to tell his story.

In his own words;
"Quite simply.. YOU ALL SAVED MY LIFE."

Iain has requested that his story be shared on our social media channels and has given his consent for this publication, not only to thank those who helped him, but to highlight the importance of learning CPR and Community First Responders. The photo below was taken just three weeks before Iain's cardiac arrest, showing Iain and Jayne after completing the hike to the top of the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye.

His survival is proof that the Chain of Survival works:
❤️ Early Access
❤️ Early CPR
❤️ Early Defibrillation
❤️ Early Advanced Life Support
❤️ Early Post-Resuscitation Care

✨Every link matters ✨

To the neighbouring campervanners,
To the local man,
To the Buncrana Community First Responders,
To the National Ambulance Service crews,
To the hospital teams,
And to Jayne, who stood by Iain's side every step of his journey, kindly keeping our team
updated throughout his recovery.

THANK YOU ❤️

Because of your actions, a husband, family member and friend is still here today.

This is why CPR training matters.
This is why Community First Responders matter.
This is why every second counts❤️

💜 Last night, during a friendly match, Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

The coverage that followed highlights an ongoing problem. The media continues to get the language wrong when reporting cardiac events.

Terms like cardiac arrest, heart attack, and other conditions are often used interchangeably when they are very different. That does not just affect accuracy; it shapes how the public understands what has actually happened.

In this piece, we look at what the headlines are getting wrong and why clear, correct terminology matters.

Better understanding starts with getting the basics right.
