⚠️ Delays expected:
Penkridge and Acton Trussell will be very busy this morning as commuters try to get out of Stafford using local routes. The A449 is likely to be heavily congested.

If you’re heading south, allow extra time, check live updates before you travel, and use alternative routes where possible.

Stay safe and drive carefully, everyone.

We will bring you all the latest as it happens

Another developer looking to take advantage of the five-year housing target loophole.

Just because the council can’t currently show a five-year housing land supply doesn’t mean every speculative plan should sail through. The NPPF still says developments have to be sustainable, with the right infrastructure, transport links, and community fit.

The five-year supply figure is only temporary and doesn’t justify long-term overdevelopment.

Roads, schools, and local services were planned for the original number not whatever the developer fancies now.

Local planning should stay plan-led, not developer-led.

Plans have come forward to build 180 houses on the edge of a village in South Staffordshire. The scheme involves building the houses on some of the ‘best and most versatile agricultural land’ in Perton.

🏡 Councillors approve plans for 135 new homes north of Penkridge

South Staffordshire Council’s planning committee has approved full planning permission for 135 homes on land east of the A449, north of Penkridge.

The developer, Bloor Homes, had already lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate after its earlier outline application wasn’t determined in time but councillors have now backed a new, full application for the same site.

🔹 The appeal process for the earlier application is still ongoing

🔹 The new approval was unanimous at Tuesday’s (Oct 21) planning meeting

🔹 The land forms part of a much larger planned development area of up to 1,100 homes, plus housing for older people, a new school and a community centre

🔹 Another nearby Bloor Homes plan for 215 homes off Stafford Road was also approved last month

South Staffordshire councillors have given the green light for 135 new homes to be built on land north of Penkridge after another planning application for the same site went to appeal.

📣 Planning Update – Hockerhill Farm, Brewood

South Staffordshire Council’s planning committee has approved a new proposal for up to 100 homes on land at Hockerhill Farm, south of Kiddemore Green Road.

The 6.25-hectare (15.4-acre) site had previously been considered part of the Green Belt.
A similar application last year, for 85 homes, an 80-bed care home and community facilities was rejected in October 2024.

This new application, approved on Tuesday 21 October, includes:
🏠 Around 50 affordable homes
🏡 10 single-storey bungalows
🌳 Public open space and play areas
🚶‍♀️ Footpaths, cycleways and landscaping
🚌 Contributions toward local bus services

More than 100 objections were submitted, with concerns about extending the village boundary and the impact on local character and infrastructure.

Supporters argued the development helps meet local housing needs and sits in a “sustainable” location near services.

Plans for up to 100 new homes outside the Brewood settlement boundary have been approved after the land was classified as “grey belt”.

🏡 Big housing development planned for edge of Stafford

More than 360 new homes could be built on farmland off Milford Road, Walton-on-the-Hill, to the east of Stafford.

Developer Hallam Land has submitted an outline planning application to Stafford Borough Council for the site. If it’s approved, a later “reserved matters” application would set out the detailed layout, design, and types of homes.

The land forms part of a wider area being considered for future housing growth around Stafford. The proposal has already sparked local interest and concern about the impact on traffic, local services, and loss of farmland.

More than 360 new homes could be built on farmland to the east of Stafford.
