An excellent lunch time meeting today.
First the club was able to donate £300 towards a defibrillator to be installed at our Bird In Hand venue following a recent incident with a customer.
Secondly, we were given a fascinating talk by our new member Simon Davies on his career and life working with trauma patients at Stoke and in the Army (Afghanistan etc).

The Mayor of Stafford, Jenny Baron visited us on March 25th to renew friendships and reminisce about her duties since becoming Mayor last May. Her talk was most interesting, enlightened by her husband Ray Baron, Mayor’s Consort. Members agreed to donate £100 to her two charities, Staffordshire Women’s Aid and Stafford Community Link.

Friday was a special day as we handed over the first two bags of a new project we have started with Stafford Women’s Aid. Our Resettlement Bags are full of essential items and a few tasty treats to support families as they move from supported housing into a home of their own.

The bags cost £25 which had the full support of Club Members as it is a sustainable project supporting our local refuge.

On Tuesday evening (10/3), 25 club members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal at the Riverbank Restaurant which is part of Stafford College and is staffed by trainees for both kitchen and front of house. Around £160 was raised for charity fund.

Over 100 books delivered to Beverley at Books4Home. The books were either donated or purchased by the Rotary Club of Stafford and came from a variety of places friends, Charity shops, Vinted, Market place all in either new or very good pre read condition.

We will continue to support this project that provides books for local schools. Our next target 200 books so please check out your book shelves, no book will go to waste as Books4Home also provides books for local prisons, hospice and care homes.

On World Book Day it was a very appropriate day to be sorting out books purchased and donated by Rotary members. These books will be going to the Rotary Books4Home scheme that provides books to schools in our area.

In a very short time we have purchased and collected over 100 good quality new and used books and plan to continue to support this valuable project.

If you have any books you would like to pass on to a good home please let me know and I will attempt collection.

At our 25th Feb meeting, we heard from Maryann of Stafford Street Pastors describing the essential voluntary work they do in the town center on Friday & Saturday nights to protect vulnerable folk taking part in the town's night time economy.
Street Pastors as an organisation has existed since 2003 and in Stafford since 2009 and now has some 12,000 pastors over 200 towns & cities here in the UK and now overseas as well.
Their is Caring-Listening-Helping.
As a club we were more than happy to give a donation to their work.

Some of the funds we raise during the year go towards providing food hampers at Christmas to families who may be struggling with the costs of basic food items.
Stafford Rotary source the food items, and manage the packing, with the Salvation Army managing the distribution via contacts through local schools.
Our Rotarians enjoy a good time of fellowship pulling this all together
