A local skateboarder is attempting to complete the equivalent of a marathon on wheels to raise funds for the regeneration of St Albans’ 40-year-old skatepark.

From music makers to mini-skaters June is packed full of opportunities to get creative and active at The Pioneer Club.

Wednesday 24th June
Our monthly Under 18s Open Mic gives young musicians the opportunity to take to the stage in a welcoming and supportive space - perfect for solo performers and duos.

Tuesday 30th June
Our inaugural Under 18s Open Band will see bigger groups take over at The Pioneer Club.

Weekly on Wednesday from 4-6pm we have our youth group, a space to chill out and connect young people aged 13-17. Or looking for something a little more adventurous? Join in our weekly Dungeons & Dragons and gaming group.

Thursday - Saturday sees our mini shredders take over our indoor skatepark for Little Wheels Club, our scoot, balance bike, skateboard and roller-skate session 9.30-10.30am Thursday & Friday, 10-11am Saturday

Looking for something for older kids, check out our 11am-3pm off-peak session (perfect for home educators) or our After School Club which is open to all from 3-6.30pm Thursdays and Friday.

Then we wind up the weekend with Sunday Skate School a casually coached session perfect for everyone from absolute beginners finding their balance to those working on their first tricks.

Shout out to all adventurers. Our D&D club has been cancelled this week, but we’ll be back to continue the adventure next week.

Sam will still be running our Youth Group from 4-6pm so head on down and hang out at The Pioneer.

Step Forward every Wednesday during term time 1–3pm.

A collaboration between The Pioneer Club and to support young people and their carers experiencing EBSNA (Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance).

Founded in 1941, The Pioneer Charity has always been a place for people to connect, belong, and find community and Step Forward continues that tradition. Together, we’re creating a safe, supportive space where children and families can begin to rebuild confidence, connect with others, and take meaningful steps forward. From social sessions and tailored activities to emotional support, our programme is designed to meet each child where they are.

Huge thanks to our amazing team, the families who trust us, and our brilliant partners at Vista Support Services.

As a youth charity established in 1941 supporting young people is at the heart of what we do.

This Wednesday we have two activities which do just that.

Young Pioneers Youth Group
Our weekly youth group provides a safe, supervised space for young people aged 13-17 to relax and connect with their peers irrespective of race, gender or sexuality. Supporting them as they build new friendships.

Under 18s Open Mic
No pressure, just good vibes, real support and musicians cheering each other on. Our U18s Open Mic isn’t just a night of music, it’s a place to belong, experiment and see what you can do. Free to play, and free to watch.

The move to secondary school can feel like a big step for both children and parents.

If your child is feeling anxious about the transition from Year 6, you’re not alone - and support is available.

We’re running free parent workshops in partnership with to help you feel more confident supporting your child through this change.

You’ll learn practical strategies to: ✔ reduce anxiety ✔ build confidence and resilience ✔ support your child through the transition

These sessions are ideal for parents and carers of Year 6 pupils, especially if your child finds change difficult or would benefit from extra reassurance.

Exciting news - the Pioneer potholes are no more… or at least they won’t be soon!!

The road past Pioneer leading to Heathlands School is being resurfaced next week.

There will be a minor inconvenience as The Pioneer carpark will be inaccessible while the works are underway. So where possible we’re asking you to park off site and walk to The Pioneer, and please accompany young children as there will be heavy machinery on site.

We appreciate your cooperation and are looking forward to smooth driving on site soon!!

Our indoor skatepark is open all day Thursday & Friday for some active, screen-light fun.

11am-3pm: Pioneer Off-Peak. Perfect for home educators, work-from-homers or anyone with a flexible schedule.

3.00-6.30pm: After School Club. A scoot, skate and rollerskate session for everyone aged 5 and above.

Both sessions cost just £7.50 (Bookwhen link in our bio) with profits from our skatepark going towards helping The Pioneer Charity’s work with young people in the local area.
