Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews

Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews "Supporting Communities" - Folk who meet for fun and fellowship whilst helping communities, locally, nationally and internationally. We’d love to hear from you.

As one of two Rotary Clubs in St Andrews, we are actively involved in supporting a wide range of local, regional and international projects. Founded in 1996, our Club has 37 members, all committed to supporting many worthy causes, charities and organisations, principally in our own community, by means of fundraising as well as practical help, whichever is most needed…and that may be both, if we ca

n. If helping others whilst also enjoying numerous social events throughout the year appeals to you, then please get in touch. New members and visitors are always welcome. We meet at The St Andrews Golf Club, The Links (overlooking the 18th green on the Old Course), each Tuesday evening at 6.45pm for 7.00pm, when we will enjoy a meal and a speaker on a topic of interest. Thank you for looking at our page. You can also visit our website - www.kilrymontstandrews.org - where you’ll find further details not just of what we plan to do this year, but also what Rotary, in general, can offer. We hope you find it of interest. Please feel free, of course, to contact us at any time.

SANDCASTLES AND OTHER SAND CREATIONS - 31.7.25
Around 60 children took part in our 4th Sandcatle competition of the season.
Imagination and ingenuity were obvious as usual.
Winners were Ella and Jack with their Egyptian inspired Pyramids and Sphinx and runners up were Isabelle, William and Oliver with Osnaburgh Castle.
As usual prizes were donated by the Cheesy Toast Shack and Caffe Bombolino. Ice creams were once more given to every children entrant.
We hope to see a good crowd again tomorrow for our second last event this summer.

ANNUAL PUTTING SOCIAL ON THE HIMALAYAS - 28.7.25
Around 40 members, partners and friends gathered at the Himalayas Putting green for a social evening putting.
It was a really lovely evening on this difficult but fun course so that if the scores of the players were really good or pretty awful, everyone enjoyed a pleasant evening.
The winning lady was Patricia Roberts Quinn with a score of 42 who received the trophy that had been presented to the Club for that purpose by Mary Clark, wife of our late President Bruce.
Immediate Past President Gordon Moir was the leading male with a score of 40.
As was obvious from all the cheers out on the course, there were a large number of holes in one all of whom received a Twirl bar for their efforts. One team of 4 all had a hole in one on their first hole!
Everyone enjoyed a welcome cuppa and some cake and biscuits prior to the prize giving.
President David Gray gave a vote of thanks to Jim Allison for his organisation of the event and to those who prepared the refreshments during play.

FUN ON THE EAST SANDS - 24.7.25
It was another very successful morning on the East Sands for our 3rd sand building competition of the summer holiday season. An amazing 75 children took part!
Josie, Molly, Jami, Thomas and Laura built a wonderful hippo and won toasted sandwiches which were presented by Elise from the Cheesy Toast Shack.
Charlotte, Corin, Rachel, Katie and Orlando, who built a huge Barbie Castle won a prize of doughnuts and chocolate sauce from Caffe Bombolino.
All the youngsters who took part received an ice cream, again courtesy of the Toast Shack, for their efforts.
Many thanks to both of these businesses for their kind sponsorship of this popular event.
We look forward to seeing many more entrants this Thursday, 31st July, on the East Sands at 10.30.😀Buckets and spades are always available.

ABERLOUR, SCOTLAND’S CHILDREN’S CHARITY - 22.07.25
Two representatives of the Aberlour children’s charity gave a talk to club members on Tuesday 22nd July.
Ally MacDonald and Susan McKay, who both work in the Angus area, outlined the work of the charity in supporting vulnerable children in the community.
Aberlour, which this year celebrates it 150th birthday, works to alleviate child poverty by helping families trying to cope in challenging circumstances. It advocates ending school meals debt and by helping families that have council tax or rent debt with management advice or help from a hardship fund. Working alongside council social services, Aberlour runs several services including residential, outreach, fostering and disability help.
It also has an urgent assistance fund covering food, utilities, clothing, and bedding.
President elect Forbes Lockhart introduced the speakers and Gordon Mackenzie propose thanks for an illuminating talk.

SUMMER SAND CREATIONS 17th July 2025
There was another good turnout on the East Sands today for our second sand creation competition if the school holiday season.
There was a mist rolling in and out from the sea but the weather was pleasantly warm and by the end of the competition the sun was shining on everyone.
At around 10.30am 47 young people accompanied by family adults gathered and began to construct a variety of wonderful creations and at around 11.45 eagerly awaited the results of the judging.
No child went home disappointed as ice creams for all participants were generously donated by the Cheesy Toast Shack on the East Sands.
Second place was awarded to Finlay and Arran for ‘Jellyfish Kingdom’. They received a voucher to buy ice creams at Jannettas Gelateria.
First place was awarded to Edith, Mairi and Isla for ‘Octopus’s Garden’. They received boxes of mini doughnuts and drinks kindly donated by ‘Caffe Bombolino’ which is located near the East Sands Leisure Centre.
We are very grateful for the support of these local businesses.
The next competition takes place next Thursday, 24th July, at 10.30am.
We look forward to seeing more eager participants then. Buckets and spades are always available should you not have your own.
Here are some photos of today’s efforts to give you inspiration.

SUMMER SANDCASTLES ETC 10th July 2025
It was the perfect day for our first Sandcastle Competition of the summer season on the East Sands, St Andrews. 48 children with accompanying parents and grandparents turned up to build a wide variety of sand creations - not always castles.
There were 2 main prizes but no child left disappointed as, rightly proud of their creations, each enjoyed an ice cream kindly donated by the Cheesy Toast Shack.
First prize of Toasties for the family was won by Cameron and Hazel for ‘Mona Lisa’ and second prize of a voucher for ice creams was awarded to the creators of ‘Sand City’.
Well done everyone. Hope to see you again at 10.30am next Thursday 17th July.
Maybe this selection of photos taken today will inspire you for next time.

FIRST CORPORATE MEMBER
On Tuesday 1st July Madras College became the club’s first corporate member.
Rector, Ken Currie (centre), was introduced by member Alice Little and was welcomed to the club by President David Gray who presented him with Rotary pins for himself and the other 3 members of staff who are now entitled to attend our meetings to represent the school.
We look forward to meeting with them in the coming weeks and months and working with them in the community to raise awareness of Rotary and the work the club does.
