The Chinese Hongpao Society is one of the largest student-based societies in St Andrews. It is a charity registered in Scotland, No.SC019883, and is affiliated to the University of St Andrews Students’ Association. We aim to support all Chinese-speaking students, especially freshers, by giving advice on general living and studying issues, etc. The society is open to everyone who is interested in C
hinese culture, no matter who you are, where you are from, what your religious belief is, you are always welcome to join us. Most of you may be perplexed by our society name, “Hongpao”, and it may seem strange. In fact, it is the Chinese pronunciation of the red gown worn by students in St Andrews. Since Chinese students are 4,831 miles away from home, we launched the Hongpao Forum, http://www.hongpao.co.uk/forum.php, where the majority of our support is provided and it aims to unite all Chinese students in St Andrews and make them stay cozy. Apart from the forum, we bring the members in the society together through various social events and cultural activities such as Bite of China, Adoption Party and Trip to Whisky Distillery. In order to promote the welfare of the members, we strive to maintain the relationship with our sponsors and obtain discounts from them and these offers are exclusive to our members only. Strenghthened with our past experience and equipped with a clear goal, every year’s committee looks forward to preserve and continue the ideologies of the past members. Moreover, we have a more pro-active stance with an inclination to reform the society.
