Nominations close tomorrow!

Without volunteers, our group simply wouldn't exist!

As volunteer week closes, as group lead I would like to thank every single person who contributes to the running of our scout group.

Its so important to recognise what a difference volunteering makes.

Its the difference of making a youth member smile, or helping them achieve something they never thought possible. Perhaps its the difference between helping them overcome fear or helping scrape the mud from the muddiest hike ever!

This week, on volunteers week, it is also important to appreciate these volunteers, who between full time jobs, families and caring responsibilities, who are all extremely busy..... they still manage to find that little squidge of time to help create memories for our youth members.

On behalf of our youth members, thank you to the section teams, the tomahawk team, the archery team, the paddle team, the soft fencing team and our board of trustees and anyone else who helps us on our journey through scouting!

You are all appreciated 👏 👏👏

💜 It’s , and we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Scouting possible every day.

Our volunteers give their time, energy, and passion to help young people gain Skills for Life, build confidence, make friendships, and find a place where they truly belong. Whether they're leading weekly meetings, supporting events, or working behind the scenes, their dedication has a lasting impact on so many lives.

That’s why we’re bringing back Brew it Forward for 2026! ☕✨

We want to recognise the volunteers who go above and beyond, the ones who make Scouting unforgettable, and the people who always show up with a smile and a helping hand.

Know someone who deserves a well-earned thank you? Nominate them for a chance to receive a £10 coffee voucher and, more importantly, the recognition they deserve.

🗓 Nominations close: Saturday 7 June
👉 Submit your nomination here: https://forms.office.com/e/yR19XhNBEg

Throughout the week, we'll be sharing some of the heart-warming nominations and celebrating the amazing people who help young people thrive through Scouting.

Let’s spread some appreciation, one cuppa at a time ☕💜

A very productive day today, and its been a sunny Saturday to aid the work that went on!

Firstly a huge thank you to the amazing volunteer who came forwards after our plea and did a first knock back of our grounds with a brush cutter!

This has made a huge difference already, because as we mentioned before - we just don't have the equipment needed for some jobs! But our "gardening angel" literally stepped in and has made a huge difference!

A quick whizz over with the mower at the front allowed our water team plus willing scouts, and a cub to get all the kit checked over, cleaned down and get the trailer washed too without wading through knee high grass!

Our scouts have worked towards their volunteer time needed for their gold award. Thank you for your time too! It was certainly the best day for being soaked in water!

As group lead, I would like to kick off next term by awarding them all 3 patrol points (and 3 paw prints) to those who mucked in.

Thank you also to the leaders for another 3 hours racked up this week of your volunteer hours! 3 kudos points for you guys!

"Its only an hour a week"*

We are urgently seeking help from volunteers to help us gain some normality back to our outside space instead of us having a jungle!

We have a mower and fuel, but we don't own a strimmer, or the means to dig up troublesome shrubs to keep it neat and tidy.

We are fueled entirely by volunteer hours, but with our leaders already giving up hours every week and using their annual leave to be able to take youth members away camping etc.... they have exhausted their spare time.

This is where you can help us, without having to be a leader!

We can't hire anyone in as subs are increasing year on year without having to pay for a gardener, so please don't suggest companies to quote, as this is sadly not an option, we need to rely on goodwill and a couple of hours of amazing volunteering by a mini jungle army.

This ideally needs to be complete by June 1st which is our return to scouting after half term.

If you think you can help us - please get in touch!

Please note this is for our HQ just off west end... we don't own tom thumb campsite!

Thank you for hosting our cubs last night. It was great fun and they all achieved their badge!

One of our explorers is embarking on a physical challenge to help raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

She will be doing 3000 push ups during June to reach her goal of £500. Lets help her smash it!
https://support.teenagecancertrust.org/fundraisers/scarlettcarter/3000-push-ups-in-june-2026

As group lead, our family has first hand experience of how supportive they can be. With dedicated nurses, a wealth of information, dedicated spaces on wards, pick me ups and treats, we wouldn't have coped without them.

Please support our explorer on her quest - it's a great cause!

Gemma

This June, I am taking part in a tough challenge to support Teenage Cancer Trust in providing vital support. Help me by donating or by joining the challenge to make an incredible difference to the lives of young people with cancer.

We have spaces available for immediate start. If you have a child, aged between 4 years and 18 years, then we have space for you!

Our biggest question is always this - Do we take girls? Yes!

Did you know girls first joined venture scouts (now explorers & network) in 1976! Followed by girls in all sections by 1991!

Everyone is welcome!
