Amazing news for our historic pier 😍

Fantastic to hear confirmation from Sefton Council that the £20 million funding for Southport Pier has been signed off by the Government.

I received the news today alongside Councillor Marion Atkinson and Councillor Paulette Lappin at the entrance to the pier, a structure that has stood at the heart of this town for over 150 years and is set to stand for many more.

This is exactly the kind of investment in pride of place that our communities deserve, and this government is delivering.

Work can now begin on the pier's refurbishment and I look forward to seeing the progress as it gets underway.

It's been a beautiful day, and what better way to spend it than by attending the Classical Architecture of Southport tour by Molly from Osborne Arts. Learning about the different classical influences in the buildings around the town centre was so interesting! ☀️🏛

And as if that wasn't enough, Molly is running a second event this evening at Southport Market from 6-7pm - The Ancient Egyptian’s Guide to Having Fun. More info on the Osborne Arts page or Eventbrite 📜

Come and hear the stories behind the windows at the Ormskirk Telephone Box Micro Museum on Friday 13th March from 10.30. Join the Heritage Hub Team at the phone box between 10.30 and 11.30 (no need to book) for a tour of scenes from Ormskirk's past through the windows and find out what inspired them.
Donations towards our project to secure temporary town centre premises for an Ormskirk Heritage Museum would be most welcome.

We're already a month into the new year, and things are moving quickly behind the scenes as we look forward to Southport's 2026 Heritage Open Days festival from 11th to 20th September!

I'm so excited to share that this year's festival theme will be...

We'll be exploring:
- daily working life through the ages
- stories of local families
- the history of local cottage industries, organisations, and movements

📣GET INVOLVED!📣

We're looking for local people, organisations, and venues to host events as part of our 2026 festival programme.

Whether you've hosted before, or you're brand new, there's a whole spectrum of ways that you get get involved, and we'd love to hear from you!

From tours to talks, exhibitions to guided walks, story-sharing events to family-history workshops, and everything in between, there's a pathway into the festival for everyone.
