The aims of the Southend Forest Project are to:

● To significantly increase Southend's tree canopy cover.
● To improve the health and biodiversity potential of existing and veteran trees.
● To assist the local authority in managing the senescence of veteran trees

, holistically managing the decline of a trees condition to maximise biodiversity benefits.
● To increase awareness and education within Southend of the importance of nature, the environment, the climate and trees.
● To improve human health at a local level, by reducing the spread of heavy pollutants and reducing the heat island effect of the built environment through tree canopy cover and other initiatives.

St Helen's Catholic Primary School have been taking great care of the trees we planted with them this winter. They have already added wildflower seeds to the outside to help encourage a multitude of invetebrates.

This week they added woodchip to the area to help the trees flourish and grow. This will eventually turn to mulch and soil changing the chemistry of the soil to be better suited to woodland rather than grass.

We were very kindly given some woodchip by the Southend Forest School Project. The Eco-warriors and Year 4 were busy today putting it around the new trees, which are growing well in the nature area. Well done and thank you to all 🌳 😃

Beautiful weather this morning for our Day of Action activity. We returned to Darlinghurst Academy to add woodchips to the trees we planted there in February, all of which are flourishing nicely.

Thank you to the 19 volunteers who helped today including all the little helpers who helped water the trees.
