VOLUNTEERS OUT IN FORCE PICKING LITTER ACROSS SEVERAL AREAS
WEEKLY volunteers in Rochford have been out in force tackling litter across several areas.
Rochford District Litter Picks met early this week to beat the heat, focusing on Clements Hall Park Gardens and surrounding streets in Hawkwell and Hockley:
Large amounts of rubbish were collected, particularly around the skate park and play areas, despite additional bins being installed nearby.
Unusual finds included gas canisters, dog waste bags in trees, a half Β£5 note and even a doll's head hidden in hedges.
Teams also cleared areas including Spa Road, the station, library and Southend Road, reporting overflowing recycling points to the council.
Volunteers said the effort helped improve the environment while bringing people together.
A spokesman for Rochford
District Litter Picks said: "Our lovely litter pickers met a little earlier than usual this morning to beat the heat.
"Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make a difference.”

Our lovely litter pickers met a little earlier than usual this morning to beat the heat at Clements Hall Park Gardens. One of our group cleared near the shopping parade Hawkwell at 7am πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘.
There was plenty of litter to collect, especially around the new skate park, Clements Hall, Hawkwell despite the addition of new bins nearby. Reported broken glass was swiftly removed by a couple of the team to avoid an accident.

Today’s unusual finds included half a Β£5 note, hidden in the hedges, gas canisters, dog poo bags hanging from trees, and the standout discovery of the day – a doll’s head peeking out from the hedges! A Special mention also goes to whoever thought a treadmill belonged at the bottle bank recycling point. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

On the positive side, the jasmine was smelling beautiful, everyone enjoyed a good chat, and thankfully it wasn’t as hot as expected.

Our Hockley volunteers pottled around Spa Road, the station, library, Hawkwell Road, White Hart Lane, Glencroft Park where somebody obviously had a very good time - evidence included gas canister, fleece blanket, vodka, balloons and condoms 😳
The volunteers went on to the play area at Hawkwell common, which was disgraceful 😑.
Furthermore clearing Southend Road to Hockley library.
Gas canisters has been left by the bins at the library. The recycling bins and clothes bins are rammed full. These were reported to RDC to arrange emptying πŸ™

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make a difference. πŸ’šπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

We are so proud of Josh as he continues with his commitment to litter picking as his volunteer work as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award challenge.
He has braved the heat today, taking with him a bottle of water to keep hydrated as he continues his litter pick.

Some of the roads he collected rubbish from included Daws Heath Road then through the Brook Road Industrial Estate.

He picked up 151 pieces of litter, including 18 cans/bottles for recycling.

His most unusual find today was a washing up sponge! We could say he cleaned up today!

Another one of our volunteers couldn't make it on Monday, so today they litter picked along the Ashingdon Rd from the top of Ashingdon Hill to the junction with Brays Lane. 2 full bags collected, plus a few other items retrieved and taken home to sort.
Our recycling is of importance to us, so
45 cans/bottles recycled ♻️
Well done and thank you πŸ™

We admire the tenacity of Rose, one of our community volunteers committed to keeping our streets and open spaces clear of rubbish.
β€œHappy Sunday pickers”
We often find ourselves unable to make our regular litter pick with our group, but this doesn’t stop Rose- as she has a medical appointment tomorrow but was determined to take little walk down to Clements Hall field; so armed with picker and couple of bags both full and recycled at home - well done Rose and Thank You.
πŸ™ we have New bins which look very smart, it’s a shame they are not bigger.
Fly Tipping reported to RDC

Note: There are still none at the Skatepark . Some photos and a lawn mower dumped at side of Skatepark. Reported to RDC .

Josh went out early this week to do his volunteer litter picking as he has a busy weekend ahead, (including preparing for his exams next week) He went to the Lower Wyburns woodland area in Rayleigh, plus Winbrook and Nevern Roads including the alleyway to Eastwood Road.

He collected 147 pieces of rubbish; only 15 cans and bottles this time, but one was a very large plastic bottle!

He also picked up a reusable water bottle and some nasty sharp plastic netting - good to get that in the bin before it hurt any wildlife. Well done Josh and good luck with your exams πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Josh will continue with his voluntary work as part of his community environmental awareness towards his Duke of Edinburgh award.
We need more DofE students like Josh πŸ™Œ
