King John's Morris

King John's Morris Men perform Cotswold and Border morris - and also a mummers' play - in and around Southampton.

We dance at various venues throughout the year, performing a number of styles of Morris appropriate to the season and venue. In the spring and summer, we perform Morris in the style of the southern midlands of England, often referred to as "Cotswold" Morris. At suitable venues, we also perform dances from Lancashire and Cheshire, often referred to as North West Morris, a more regimented style, danced in clogs. Around Christmas we perform dances from the Welsh borders and also mummers plays based on those collected in Hampshire.

King John’s Morris Men have now started our practice season. We are a friendly team of chaps who enjoy learning and performing traditional Morris. We practice on Monday evenings at the Scout hut on Brickfield Road SO17 3AE and welcome anyone interested in learning Morris dance. Some visit a pub after practice.

Albert de Lyon part 6

Albert de Lyon is a dandy lion not a tatterdemalion. He is unique and definitely not a copycat, in fact he is in a cat-egory of his own. He is a model member of our team, but you won’t catch him on many catwalks.

Albert is at the top of the food chain and once ate a Dromedary. He got the hump and we got a camel-lion. It couldn’t change colour properly because of reptile dysfunction.

He is a one off pursonality, he carries roarsome vibes and isn’t manestream. He can make others roar with laughter which gets him more than the lion’s share of attention which he’s keen to manetane.

His mane motto is;
keep pawsative and carrion.
Don’t furget it!

Albert de Lyon Part 5

Albert de Lyon is sometimes embarrassed about his cannibalism which has caused him to swallow his pride.

He doesn’t just get chitty jobs.
He’s not bad on a computer, he understands mega bites. He’s not afraid to use cutting edge technology, but this can mean he gets a bit of stick sometimes.

Albert was given the interesting job of finding a friend for King John’s mascot piglet, he says he found it a boar.

When he makes his own flour he is one in a mil-lion and if you were to see his face on a dollar he would be one in a bil-lion.

Albert de Lyon Part 4

Albert de Lyon once ate li-on batteries to give himself more roar power, they made him unwell but it’s not terminal. He stole these but was not charged. Shocking really.

He has some crazy hair styles but we don’t see them in the main.

Also Lions don’t play golf but a Tiger Wood.
