King John's Morris

King John's Morris Men perform Cotswold and Border morris - and also a mummers' play - in and around Southampton.

We dance at various venues throughout the year, performing a number of styles of Morris appropriate to the season and venue. In the spring and summer, we perform Morris in the style of the southern midlands of England, often referred to as "Cotswold" Morris. At suitable venues, we also perform dances from Lancashire and Cheshire, often referred to as North West Morris, a more regimented style, dan

ced in clogs. Around Christmas we perform dances from the Welsh borders and also mummers plays based on those collected in Hampshire.

After last night's enjoyable (but very warm) mini-tour of St. Denys with Red Stags Morris, when we danced Sheriff's Ride, (Lichfield) for the new Southampton Sheriff, Kat Barbour, next week, on Thursday 25th June, we are at the The Cuckoo Inn Hamptworth, SP5 2DR, to sample Nik and Sophia's excellent beverages - and dance, of course 😇

On Thursday 18th June, we are repeating our annual mini-tour of St. Denys, together with guests Red Stags Morris, starting with the Dolphin, Osborne Road South SO17 2EZ from 7:30 p.m., then the South Western, Adelaide Road SO17 2HW from 8:10 p.m. and finishing at the Junction Inn, Priory Road SO17 2JZ from 8:50 p.m.

Every Christmas time KIng John's Morris Men perform their mummers play and dance to collect money for local charities. At a really enjoyable music and song night at The Cottage Inn, Butlocks Heath last week King John's presented a cheque for £2,250 to PCaSO a local charity providing assistance, information and raising awareness of prostate cancer. They also hold PSA testing events where men have blood tests to check for raised PSA levels. At a recent testing event 273 men had blood tests and 10% were found to have raised PSA levels. A raised PSA level is an indicator of the possibility of prostate cancer.
We lost another dear friend, John Miller, in the past year to this horrid disease, so we are pleased to be able to support PCaSO. For more information visit www.pcaso.org
