Southampton-Palestine Friendship Network- SPFN

Southampton-Palestine Friendship Network- SPFN We are the Southampton-Palestine Friendship Network (SPFN). In the long-term, we will also be working towards an official twinning between the cities.

Over the last year, we have come together in Southampton to support our friend Ahmad, who is from Deir al-Balah in Gaza, Palestine, and his family and community. Through this, the Southampton community have already raised almost £20,000 for a water well and its operation in Deir al-Balah, through various fundraising efforts. We felt it was a natural continuation of these efforts to formalise and d

eepen these links between Southampton and Deir al-Balah through a Britain Palestine Friendship and Twinning Network group, https://www.twinningwithpalestine.net/. We plan and aim to support the people of Deir al-Balah through fundraising for lifesaving projects and other humanitarian projects in the city, guided by the people of Deir al-Balah on what they need to help themselves, and through this developing further links with the people in Deir, and educating and inspiring our community to support the just cause of the Palestinian people.

We will be a part of this brilliant Festival of Eid event at Hoglands Park, Southampton.

Rescheduled from this coming Saturday, to Saturday 27th June.

The genocide continues in every conceivable way in Gaza, Palestine 🇵🇸, and across the entirety of Palestine 🇵🇸.

It does not stop for the Palestinian 🇵🇸 people at home under brutal siege and every form of violence imaginable, and for the millions more forced abroad by decades of the illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide of their homeland.

From catastrophic targeted airstrikes, to abductions, from intentional and murderous aid restriction to reconstruction denial, from torture to murder, from complete house demolition, land seizure to destruction of hospitals and universities, and everything else in between.

The attempted and intentional wiping out of Palestinian 🇵🇸 society.

A continuation of the most heinous and specific acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

Genocide.

Some of us were in London on Saturday to mark, and stand against, the ongoing Nakba (catastrophe) forced upon the Palestinian 🇵🇸 people.

Once again 100s of thousands of people signalled their complete opposition to our countries continued and deep involvement in Palestinian 🇵🇸 suffering, from 1917 to today.

Justice for the victims, and complete freedom and justice for the survivors of this ongoing heinous colonialism and genocide.

Free Palestine 🇵🇸.

It was great to hear and learn from Omar, from Friends of Palestinian Universities, Fobzu, at the Britain Palestine Friendship and Twinning Network AGM.

He described the scholasticide element of the genocide.

Omar described how surviving university medical students in Gaza continued their studies, whilst serving their community, learning whilst treating the huge numbers of casualties from the genocide, some of whom will have been friends and family members.

Omar described students defending Masters thesis in tents to academics from the destroyed universities in Gaza, who are working for free to keep Palestinian 🇵🇸 learning alive.

We must fully support Palestinians 🇵🇸 to recover, on their own terms, their right and access to education.

It was great to be at the Britain Palestine Friendship and Twinning conference yesterday.

We had the opportunity to hear from and discuss with Palestinians 🇵🇸, on what is needed to advance their just cause for justice and freedom.

We also had the opportunity to hear from exchange ideas with other networks in the group, from across England, Scotland and Wales, on their campaigns.

Free Palestine 🇵🇸.
