Mercy Collective

Mercy Collective Mercy Collective is an initiative raising money for communities in South-Eastern Uganda

Mercy Collective is an initiative, set up by Anthony Boys, who met some community leaders in Southeastern Uganda as a charitable visit. The idea is to help communities in the region become self-reliant and also able to help each other. The page will be used to share updates, bring publicity and assist in any fundraising when it begins.

Today's visiting:
I visited an Islamic school I saw last time, which sadly is closed due to structural damage.
I gave out the last of the clothing donations to the children who live at the site.
I then visited the church which I wanted our church to twin with; sadly the church has failed due to its situation.
I saw a tailoring project in the same village.
I ended the day by visiting a school which I saw last time, thankfully this one is still going.

Today is I believe the last day of visiting, and I have all 5 required signatures 📝

We started the day by giving out some of the donations.
I then saw the maize that was prematurely harvested due to the crop failure, it is not as much as it should be.
I also saw a church and school that I saw last time. The Principal is still keen to twin the school to one in the UK.

Today's visiting:
One of many maize fields that fell victim to crop failure due to a lack of rain.
I visited a school and church that I saw on the first day of my visiting last time - some places haven't changed!
And Julius made soap so the widows can learn a new trade.

Today Mercy Collective had a big meeting in Jinja Town.
We discussed our plan for the week ahead.
Then some of us went to a tailoring workshop, as I believe it will be a viable business to raise money.
Then those were still in town had lunch.

Good news:
Following a recent donation, both Reagan and Julius have managed to amass enough money to begin a joint poulty project.
Work on this began over the weekend.
It is the true first step towards self-reliance and the collaborative working that I envisioned from the beginning.

Also, there will be charity events to fundraise in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Update from Mercy Collective - January 2025
What a great start to the new year.
Just before Christmas, the JustGiving fundraiser raised £1000 from a generous donor.
This money has now been remitted to the Members of Mercy Collective, and they have all shared their plans for what they will do with this money. I suggested that they use the money for income generation.
Julius will finance his poultry project. I remember when I visited, he shown me an area where he wanted to install fences so that he can contain the chickens. Now, he will be able to buy what he needs to get this going. He also shared that he has a SACCO whereby the villagers are able to invest in his projects with small sums of money.
Waiswa is using the money to put children through school, by buying essential materials such as stationery and food, and also paying some of the rental costs of the Ministry buildings.
William is looking to start a business where he has a mechanics workshop, both for the purpose of income generation and for teaching these skills to the next generation. He will need the equivalent of £500 to see it through, and I have suggested to form a SACCO to fund the remaining costs. He also wants to buy some goats and hens, as well as pay a bit of rent, and purchase some scholastic materials.
Reagan will be buying enough scholastic materials to last for a full school term, and invest in his mixed farm project where he is planting maize and beans.
At Kwikirizaakwe Child Hope Foundation, the 2 Leaders decided to buy enough scholastic materials to last for the whole school year, and Deborah would like to start poultry rearing as well.
This is a great development. This shows that £1000 can achieve monumental things, and can be the spark that changes lives for good.
