Gender DynamiX Calling on Helen Zille to publicly apologise to transgender persons and the broader LGBTQIA+ community for her dehumanising statements
Helen Zille's latest statement showing her support to the UK's Supreme Court ruling is not only appalling to rights advancements and protections for trans and gender diverse persons, but also fundamentally contradicting human rights protections guaranteed in the South African Constitution. Trans and gender diverse persons are recognised and protected in the South African constitutional framework, despite Zille's latest attempt to dehumanise transgender women and imply the erosion of rights constitutionally guaranteed to everyone based on equality, dignity, agency and freedom of expression, as well as the right to be free from all form of violence in public and private spheres. Zille's statement is paramount to a violation of all these rights, particularly for trans and gender diverse persons.
