The way the dog community has pulled together for these two amazes me
They welcomed me in 💜
This mornings session wasnt bout training . It was about building trust with me. And a few months ago, I wasn’t sure we’d get here.
And what we didn’t plan for — it started rebuilding their trust in the outside world too.
A couple of months ago, Ronnie and Mavis and their guardian were badly attacked by two dogs
Since then, the world has felt pretty overwhelming.
Dogs felt scary. People felt scary. Someone coming into their home felt scary.
The barking, lunging and pulling weren’t the problem.
They were doing what so many reactive dogs do when they don’t feel safe — trying to create distance from the things that worried them.
Before I met them, I was already supporting their guardian through RESET. Because we can’t just look at the dog , we have to support the nervous systems on both ends of the lead.
Yesterday and today we worked on introductions and building trust.
Today we saw people. We saw dogs. We walked together.
Then something happened that meant more to me than the walk itself.
They welcomed me into their home.
For two dogs who’ve been carrying fear since a traumatic experience that’s huge.
A few months ago, people felt unsafe.
Today they walked past people, saw dogs, and invited me through their front door.
Not because they were told to.
Not because they were corrected.
But because they were beginning to feel safe enough to make different choices.
That’s where real healing starts. 💜🐾
