Forth Dimension Musical Productions

Forth Dimension Musical Productions Forth Dimension Musical Productions is a local registered amatuer musical arts charity based in South Queensferry.

We perform an annual Christmas show in December & Musical performances and singing events throughout the year for the local community. We are a local volunteer-run charitable amateur dramatic and musical society, who not only love to perform and bring joy to our local community, but we love to provide a place where people from all walks of life and abilities can sing, perform but most of all have

fun in a safe space. Based in South Queensferry with members joining from the local and surrounding areas, we were established 42 years ago when the group formed in 1979. Over 4 decades the group has performed many concerts, multiple musical productions, stage plays and a host of pantomimes. In addition, there have been choir events and even cabaret! Our membership compromises of adults, young people and children and we are always open to new members and we very much encourage our junior choir and younger members to embrace amateur theatre and empower leadership skills. We are open to Adults and Children aged 9 and over who wish to sing and act on stage but also to musicians and backstage assistants (sound and lighting).

Very sad to see this today, the Rosebery family and estate were exceptionally supportive of our organisation particularly in its earlier years. Thinking of you all and sending our condolences.

The Rosebery Estates team is deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Deirdre Countess of Rosebery, widow of the 7th Earl, on 24th May 2026, aged 94.

Our next Thanks go to Fruix Storage who looked after all of our equipment and inventory for the last few years. It’s only at Crook of Devon and about a 15 minute drive from here. Indoors, dry and secure it was a great option for us when locally storage in Edinburgh, West Lothian and even East Lothian was at a premium we couldn’t afford. Their customer care was excellent and they also were understanding of our charitable status.

It was a sad day this morning as we said goodbye to our equipment, costumes and massive inventory and closed the door on our storage one last time.

In positive legacy, our sound equipment has gone to a group of local musicians here in the Ferry and for use for multiple organisations . Our lighting has gone to a school. Our stage curtains to the Priory Church. Our other stage black curtains went to a drama school for sound proofing. Lighting went to a theatre in Perthshire. Many of our costumes have already gone to new homes and wonderful people in other am dram theatres or charities although I do still have some left to donate including full children’s chorus costumes.

If anyone has any interest in some of the items we have left please over get in touch. There’s some children’s wooden swords, children’s dinosaur onesies, an Olaf Onsie and a number of beautiful adult costumes we can’t bear to see destroyed.

This is the point where we also acknowledge that over the many years again the volunteers and committee members who stored equipment for us in their own houses , garages and lofts and at one time the scout hall container until we had to find a cheaper alternative and how much all of the above were very much appreciated at the time.

I’d also like to thank the team of people who have over the years carried out countless trips to storage facilities and heavy lifting including technical team, parents and cast. These seem like the minor things but they are in fact one of the hardest and definitely least fun parts. Thank you again to David Brown and his trailer which has regularly helped us transport staging , Kathryn Midwinter who has a car that seemed to be like a Mary Poppins bag with never ending space and to Jana Reuter for that unforgettable trip to Fruix in your van we will never have been more thankful.

Today we were lucky enough to be invited to Ferry Blends Sunday performance of their Spring Concert.

Highlights included beautiful arrangements of modern songs, traditional music, a lovely section featuring the Ferry Finches, and some soloists. Songs performed in different languages and one was beautifully signed in BSL.

We have been very privileged to have been invited to collaborate with Ferry Blend over different projects in recent years and we will miss being able to do so.

Please do support them, follow their page and remember how important it is to keep local arts groups running.

Thank you to Sue McPhail for a wonderful few years and we wish you and your wonderful choir many more successful years

Today we would like to thank some of the local businesses that supported us in our most difficult years.

Firstly the longstanding support of thanks goes to Hawes Garage who advertised with us for over 4 decades and we will be forever grateful. You also assisted with raffle prizes.

Secondly Forth Physio who also advertised with us for nearly 2 decades we once again would like to thank you for everything you supported us in wether it was our Panto or concert . You similarly donated raffle prizes for us.

Third nod would go to New Hopetoun Gardens who much like Hawes Garage not only advertised with us for nearly 30 years they almost every year donated beautiful plant arrangements for our raffles. Again your support was always appreciated .

Stag Head Hotel supported not only our raffle but regularly advertised with us for years and even more importantly was a key social centre for many of the adult FDMP members and we were always grateful for the aftershow parties and buffets you provided of which so many were highly memorable.

Bamboo Restaurant and Takeaway thank you for advertising for so many years and crucially being the cast mid week celebration meal location. We appreciated your welcome and hosting every year and for staying late.

Dalmeny Christmas Trees one of our absolutely favourite organisations over the last decade. They not only promoted our Christmas Show but provided us with Christmas Trees for the raffle and wreaths etc… we are always grateful for the fun Carol singing and will miss you all singing and dancing with us🎄🎅.

Hopetoun advertised with us for many years and also provided us with Raffle prizes. We loved to perform at their Christmas Fayre every year.

Forth Reflections we loved every moment of your support and your raffle donations were legendary.

Other notable mentions go to Scotmid on the loan and the community fund for raffle prizes over the years. Honeypot Creative cafe for many provided us with raffle prizes. Conifox Adventure Park also for a number of years supported our raffle and Craigie's Farm Shop and Cafe who supported us for a number of years. Equal thanks to Lothian Region Transport Limited for advertising their festive bus schedule for very many years.

Finally a thank you to the Tesco community fund. If it hadn’t been for your donation during COVID we would have folded 6 years ago so again we will forever be grateful for your support.

Anyone we missed out we are forever thankful. And finally thank you to all the the local high street stores no longer with us but who supported FDMP in the early days of 1978 to 1998 particularly. Many of whom are being acknowledged through our legacy posts.

Our next Sincere Thanks go to long term supporters or partners in community over the years.

Forth Dimension have always had an exceptionally strong love of the Ferry Fair Festival. We will be posting some archive parade pictures in the run up to August. What the Ferry Fair committee do each year and the amount of work they put in is astounding and it is the one week of the year where the town really comes together. We are hugely grateful for being invited into the parade year on year. For being able to advertise our Panto in the always stunning programme but most of all for being able to support many of our junior members particularly if they were part of that years court rotation. We were delighted to welcome Jane Harkin to our final show as a guest and also a very special ex FDMP member.

Secondly and very closely tied in both ethos and spirit is Christmas In Queensferry. We have loved being part of your light switch on for many years now. Again an organisation that provides real joy to the community but the work that goes in all year round is significant . We were also delighted to welcome Graeme and Anne Marie as key organisers to our final show. Similarly the work they do in our community all year round is exemplary and a special nod to Anne Marie whose work with our young people and youth clubs has revitalised an area where there is otherwise very little for our teenagers to do.

If I was to ask anything it would be that people consider volunteering, helping, joining these organisations committees. Give something back no matter how small. From an organisation that is retiring due to struggling with adult volunteers, I cannot stress enough how much both of these organisations give to the community.

Local businesses please be kinder with raffle prize donations, sponsorship or advertising … we are a town of tourism and visitors and perhaps many of the larger businesses rely on that but actually on a cold November midweek morning it is the local community that are still buying coffee and cake, or a bacon roll or bringing their families to lunch. Support local businesses but also support local charities, voluntary groups, schools, playgroups etc…that is in essence the spirit of community.

Today’s thanks go to three seperate community spaces who over the years facilitated Forth Dimension to perform their shows in.

For nearly two decades we were exceptionally fortunate to be able to use the old build South Queensferry High School Stage for our earliest productions from 1978 through to Panto era circa 1998.

For the next 2 decades up until 2020 we had the honour of using South Queensferry Scout Group at Port Edgar with many of our cast and members crossing as associates, trustees, dual volunteers and on the committees of both or either . We were exceptionally grateful to David Brown the long standing GSL who encouraged us to utilise the scout community space for which is the purpose of its lease and he understood the importance of encouraging community partnership and along with the permission of the group committee the legacy of the Ferry FDMP Panto was born. Our President Gill and her husband Mike and both sons were Scouting volunteers, I acted at one time as DGSL and leader as well as sitting on district and regional volunteer roles, our choreographer Zoe Hogg was a leader and much like Gill at one time the hall let coordinator amongst others in the FDMP team including Chris McMurray one of our sound legends who volunteered with Scouts for years. Without David and his unwavering support to the local community the Panto would never have made it off the ground. This support was always extended to many local community use groups.

One thing we are lacking even now today here in the ferry amongst many other social issues such as enough school space, medical provision, activities and space for children is general use community space and community purpose use. There has been little to no investment in arts space in the years FDMP has been in production and certainly no affordability and equity considered.

Over the 20 years we purpose built staging to bespoke fit the Scout hall and many many people were involved in the stage building including partnerships with the scouts. In that era we were grateful that for one week in December that the Scout sections vacated to allow us to perform and in return we were delighted to put the young people first on the invite list. Many members would later be inspired to join FDMP over the years having experienced it first purely through Scouting. As an organisation we visited sections including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to run musical theatre badge requirements and did the same for Girl Guiding.

Then COVID came along and the whole world was forced to slow down to a virtual halt and many many arts organisations such as ours folded and didn’t survive. More of that in later legacy… on our return from Covid multiple local groups and organisations including Scouts had encountered changes in leadership, challenges resuming some sort of normality, increases in rates to recoup costs and also a general malaise in community spirit followed that brief window of time now long forgotten when people had NHS gratitude and pots and pans and clapping. People were tired, organisations were struggling with volunteers and also financially over 2 years of income losses and rising costs of living. With a change in Scout management and Davids departure came a price hike from the district just too much that we could sustain as a not for profit charity and evidenced with our public published accounts it was deemed completely unviable to continue in Port Edgar without the support we had previously under the outgoing committee but must crucially the long standing partnership with David and other members now gone.

It was then that we saw out our final Panto years in the much loved Rosebery Hall. We will never be more grateful to their committee for allowing us to continue a few more years and it was wonderful to bring the Panto into the High Street for its final few hurrahs. I’d like to thank everyone there for their support and also their amazing team Mary, Anne, Karen & Atila and the other janitorial staff and finally again thanks to the other groups that vacated to allow us use for that one week in December.
