Today, we attended a demonstration at Sandwell Council House to stand in solidarity with staff from The Orchard School. Our members are taking action because
- there are ongoing concerns about workload and staffing levels
-there are failures around health and safety and risk assessments
- issues with pay, cover arrangements and fairness at work
-lack of meaningful engagement from leadership
Staff have repeatedly raised these concerns, unfortunately they remain unresolved.
As a union, we are proud to stand alongside our members and colleagues in support of fair treatment, respect, safe working environments and positive outcomes for all staff affected. The strength of our movement comes from standing together, and today's demonstration showed the power of collective action and unity.
We thank everyone who attended and showed their support. We will continue to work with and support staff every step of the way.
Solidarity is our strength.

🌈🌈Happy Pride Month from everyone at Sandwell GMB to all LGBTQ+ workers, members, and communities. 🌈🌈

As we celebrate Pride, we also recognize its roots in the fight for equality, dignity, and justice. We stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ people and remain committed to challenging discrimination, defending workers' rights, and building workplaces where everyone can be safe, respected, and free to be themselves.

Solidarity today, this Pride Month, and every day. πŸ’ͺπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

In the UK there is no legal maximum workplace temperature, but employers still have a duty to provide a safe and reasonable working environment and manage heat as a workplace hazard. 🌑️

GMB continue to campaign for a maximum working temperature ✊ During heatwaves, employers should provide:
🧊 More frequent breaks in cool areas
πŸ’§ Free access to cold drinking water
πŸ‘• Flexible or relaxed dress codes
πŸŒ€ Fans, air conditioning, or shade for outdoor workers

If high temperatures are affecting you at work:
πŸ—£οΈ Raise the issue with your manager and request action to improve thermal comfort
🀝 Contact your union rep or regional office if concerns are ignored
πŸ“ Record any heat-related illness, symptoms, or incidents in the workplace accident book.

🧠Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that no worker should have to struggle alone.

Across every workplace, stress, burnout, anxiety, and poor mental health are real issues affecting working people every day. Long hours, insecure work, low pay, bullying, and unsafe conditions don’t just impact jobs β€” they impact lives.

Trade unions have always fought for safer workplaces, fair treatment, dignity, and support for workers. Mental health is a workplace issue, and employers must take it seriously by creating environments where people feel safe, valued, and supported.

This week, let’s keep talking, keep checking in on each other, and keep pushing for workplaces that protect both physical and mental wellbeing. πŸ—£οΈ

A healthier workplace benefits everyone. Solidarity matters. πŸ’š
