At Greenfield Gardens in Stourbridge ECT has awarded £32k to Dudley MBC to enable the upgrade of play equipment within the play park. Located close to the town centre, the park was buzzing with young people when I visit, which was so heartening to see (but which made taking photos a challenge!). Another fantastic project funded by Enovert through the Landfill Communities Fund .

Riverside House is an incredible haven in the heart of Stourbridge, located alongside the canal. ECT has supported several projects on this site, the latest being the installtion of a landmark corten steel fence at one of the site's entrances. The project continues the regeneration of a previously problematic and antisocial area of Stourbridge, enhancing the newly developed public open space while celebrating the area's rich traditions, wildlife, and heritage. The installation will significantly improve accessibility, particularly for those with mobility challenges, and serve as the gateway to a planned cottage garden. The fence features intricate illustrations representing key aspects of the Riverside House project, including the arts, traditional crafts, ecology, heritage, and well-being, along with depictions of local wildlife.

Another 're-ordering' project of a clubhouse has been delivered successfully at Quarry Bank Tennis Club in Brierley Hill, West Midlands. The existing club house opened in 1974, so consequently had very outdated facilities which failed to meet modern accessibility standards. Following the changes, which have included redesigning the internal layout to provide fully accessible entrances, new toilet facilities (including an accessible toilet) and modernised changing facilities, the facilities are now available to all, whatever their mobility. The approach to the clubhouse has also been improved, both practically and aesthetically, by renewing and widening the pathway that runs alongside the clubhouse. ECT awarded a grant of £50k towards this £60k project, which has brought a much-loved building up to current standards..

Not so long ago you couldn't move for buckets at St Stephen's Church in Willenhall, thanks to persistent leaks throughout the church roof. An application to ECT for the replacement of the roof was successful, with ECT awarding a grant of £50k towards a £63k project. Scaffolding has just been removed following the roof replacement, and this eye-catching church is looking fantastic with its gleaming new tiles. There is much relief from members of the choir, who were regularly showered with rain during performances.

The tennis court surfaces at Woodfield Social and Sports Club in Penn, Wolverhampton, had reached end of life and needed to be resurfaced. ECT stepped in with a grant of £39k towards a project valued at over £78k which enabled four courts to be resurfaced. At the heart of this project is a commitment to grow tennis in Wolverhampton, making the sport welcoming, enjoyable and accessible for all. There are plans to engage a coach and work with local schools to ensure that the potential for the new facilities is maximised.

At Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowls Club works were needed to redevelop the changing facilities to ensure sufficient capacity and full accessibility for the club's 2000+ members. ECT awarded a grant of £50k towards a £115k project, which has seen the facilities brought into the 21st century, with smart bevelled tiles and stylish fixtures and fittings. The works involved moving the male toilets from out of the sporting changing area and relocating them into the main club area, with a new layout to allow for increased numbers of toilets, showers, disabled access toilets, changing facilities, and an umpire room.

Enville Cricket Club was my next port of call, where a grant of £19,272 contributed towards the installation of a fantastic new two-bay practice net facility. The nets were installed by Exclusive Leisure Limited and have been a fantastic addition to the club, enabling coaching to continue at the highest level in a safe environment. David Thomas, who submitted the application, has been involved at the club since the 1960's and has been responsible for many improvements over the years, including a substantial extension of the clubhouse a few years ago. This has enabled the building to be used by a number of community organisations as well as members of the public for social events.

Yesterday I was darting around between Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands, visiting projects within ten miles of Enovert's Himley Landfill Site. This landfill site has now closed and is undergoing restoration, so there are only two more funding rounds for applicants in this part of the world to submit projects for consideration by the Trustees. My first stop was Alveley Cricket Club in Shropshire, which has been the beneficiary of a number of grants from ECT over the years, including several to get the club established on a new ground, now known as Four Oaks. The latest grant of over £20k was to fund solar panels on the clubhouse, which works alongside the airsource heat pumps to power the building in a sustainable way. This is one of several measures the club has taken to minimise its impact on the environment, including rainwater harvesting.

Great to see the new pest control fencing in place at Steam Mills Recreation Ground in Cinderford. ECT awarded a grant of over £45k to install the fencing which is designed to stop wild boars from encroaching onto the pitch and damaging its surface. The wild boar damage has previously left the surface of the pitch unsafe and unusable for long periods. The fencing will ensure the pitch remains secure, safe for players, spectators and other recreation ground users. By safeguarding the facility, the Council and football club can improve pitch quality, increase participation in grassroots football, and strengthen community wellbeing. The funding has come from waste company Enovert Management Limited through the Landfill Communities Fund

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our funding provider, Enovert Community Trust, for supporting the installation of new pitch-side fencing at Steam Mills Recreation Ground.

This important project will help protect the community football pitch from wild boar damage, which has previously left the surface unsafe and unusable for long periods of time. The new fencing will ensure the pitch remains secure and safe for players, spectators, local school pupils, and all recreation ground users.

By safeguarding this valued community facility, the Town Council and local football clubs will be able to continue improving pitch quality, encourage greater participation in grassroots football, and support the health and wellbeing of our community for years to come.

Yesterday I attended Tewkesbury Borough Council's first Funding Fair, where I had a stand and also gave a presentation about applying to ECT. It was a really well attended event and I didn't stop talking for the entire time I was there - it was exhausting!

Whilst I was local I took the opportunity to visit a few completed projects. The first was Priors Park Community Church where ECT awarded a grant of £11,000 towards the Installation of solar PV panels. As I arrived a group of 27 were leaving, having enjoyed a gammon lunch, prepared in the fantastic community kitchen, funded by ECT back in 2023.

Next stop was Teddington & Alstone Village Hall a rural parish, just outside of Tewkesbury, where ECT contributed a grant of £37k towards re-roofing the building and installing a solar array. The hall is now energy self-sufficient, which has made a terrific impact on the organisation's finances, making it a sustainable and future-proofed venue.

On my way back to the motorway, I popped in to Cirencester Town FC to see the new LED lights which ECT contributed £12,499 towards. It was great to see two local schools playing a game on the 3G pitch, although no need of the lights on such a beautiful, sunny day!

All of these projects have been made possible thanks to landfill tax credits generated by the disposal of waste at Enovert's landfill sites, which fund ECT through the Landfill Communities Fund.
