This week at Scouts we packed away the now dry tents from camp and sorted out all the different components so they are ready for the next use. We discussed our personal challenge award and completed some more team work challenge badge work resulting in 2 Scouts finishing that badge. We also welcomed a new Scout in to the troop and awarded some badges earned at camp.

We were very pleased to invest a new Beaver tonight. Harry said he was nervous but he didn’t show it and said his Promise very clearly so we could all hear. His sister came in uniform and held the flag for him which made it very special.

Tonight our Beaver Scouts have learnt how to stay safe in and near water.

They used their imagination when dipping their hands into water they couldn’t see into to find objects. They pretended their hands were feet and they were jumping into a river. They thought about how it would feel to land on the objects or to get tangled in them.

They found out how we would know where it was safe to swim when at the beach and they had a go at rescuing someone by coiling and throwing a rope to them. They know that they must always keep themselves safe first though.

They also practised shouting help very loudly and demonstrated the floating position.

At the end of the evening they were awarded an RNLI Water Safety badge and certificate.

This week our Cubs and Scouts spent two nights camping at Woodhall Spa Scout Campsite. Lots of fun was had, despite the first rain downpours in weeks happening while we were camping!

We did some pioneering, some rope bridge making, and we even found time to help District Lead Volunteer Rob rebuild the dead hedge in front of the reflection area - though that very quickly turned into a competition of who could bring the biggest sticks 😂😂!

And we most definitely did not let the fire ban stop us having a campfire. A traffic cone, fairy lights and some sticks collected by Akela’s 3 year old son made a perfectly good facsimile!

Special shout out to Rob Johnson who made sure that the pitch we wanted to use was ready to go before the children turned up 🥰

And well done to our Cub Team Leader Akela Pete who managed to gain his Nights Away Permit during this camp, meaning that we are now able to plan more camps for the future!

And the best achievement of the week? Every single Young Person on camp went home with huge smiles on their faces after yet another fantastic camp.

On Monday the 15th of June we assembled our beloved bug houses. They consisted of the sticks and twigs we had collected the week before, a couple things out of puffins garden and toilet rolls stuffed into a milk carton. We had a lovely time admiring all the insects we could find already living inside our hotels. We also made beautiful pictures using our thumbs and some paint for a special person in our lives for Father’s Day.

On Monday the 8th of June we went on a hike around Jenny’s wood collecting natural items that will be used to build a bug hotel next week. We had just enough time to play on the exercise equipment too. We were also joined by lots of parents (thank you for your help) and a new Beaver. We managed to make it back to the car park before the rain.

On Monday the 1st of June we focused on…… First Aid. Well done if you got it right. We learnt all about what to do if someone gets hurt, how to call for help, including what to say to the emergency services and how to comfort someone who is hurt. We also learnt how to put someone into the recovery position and what to do if someone is bleeding.
Next week we will be away from our usual meeting place! We’re going on an adventure! . 🚶🌳🪾🐞

On Monday the 11th of May Scouts met up for their weekly meeting. They appear to have been working hard over the Bank Holiday weekend at the annual district camp and left the evening with pockets full of badges.

On Monday the 11th of May our Beavers began their evening by showing what they had been working on for 2 weeks. The Leaders set a personal challenge asking them to practise tying their shoelaces or, if they could do this already, practise tying a reef knot. They demonstrated their skills by tying Butterfly’s shoelaces. After this they learnt how to make a paracord bracelet using a cobra knot. These can be used in emergencies due to them being quick to unravel, but they can also be used to just look pretty on their wrist or clipped to a necker. Towards the end of the night the beavers showed great knowledge from a couple weeks ago to show us how they do a reef knot.
Next week we will be focusing on something very important. Can you guess what it might be? Here’s your clue: 🩹🚑📞🧑‍⚕️
