From rocks to space rocks! 🌍☄️
Following a fascinating presentation for the Shetland Geological Society in Lerwick last night, the Wild Skies team were delighted to welcome Jodie Sutherland to Unst today.
Originally from mainland Shetland, Jodie has recently begun a PhD in Planetary Science at the University of Manchester, specialising in meteoritics. As part of her research, she was hoping to source examples of a particular classification of meteorites – chondrites. Happily our Trustee Fabien was able to provide a few from his own collection that were of interest to her. After lunch she took time to explore some of our local attractions.
We’re also excited that Jodie is planning to return to Unst in September to collaborate with Wild Skies on an outreach event with the local school. Her aim is to inspire young people across the islands to consider careers in planetary science and space research 🪐
We can’t wait to have her back! ✨
