📜 Shepley Over The Years Sat & Sun 12-13th September 2pm onwards

Join us for a weekend celebrating the people, places and stories that shaped the village.

As part of England’s largest heritage festival, we’ll be bringing together local history displays, family stories, photographs and memorabilia from across Shepley and the surrounding area including…

🌺 The Churchyard Poppy Trail marking veterans and fallen soldiers mentioned on family graves with 38 identified so far! Follow the trail through the churchyard and discover the stories and photos behind the names.

🎖️ A major Shepley & The War exhibition in the church, including photographs, military records, medals, memorabilia and personal stories from local men and women who served.

Among the stories featured is that of Captain Percy Noel King, whose grave was recently uncovered from years of weeds and replanted with flowers. Nearby lies a young Shepley soldier who enlisted at just 15 years old after lying about his age. Captain King looked after the teenager, and today their graves rest just a stone’s throw from one another in the churchyard.

🏘️ Displays exploring the people, trades, buildings, organisations and history of Shepley.

🗺️ Members of the Huddersfield & District Family History Society will be on hand throughout the weekend with churchyard burial records, graveyard maps and family history expertise to help visitors trace relatives and learn more about their ancestors.

☕ The Community Café will be open throughout both afternoons for refreshments.

We’re still looking for old photographs, documents, memories and stories to include in the displays. Whether your family lived, worked, served, farmed, traded or grew up in Shepley, we’d love to hear from you.
