Sheffield Play Partnership Promoting the benefits of play and playwork for the benefit of children across Sheffield. Winner of the 2026 Move More Changemaker Award 🏆

In 2014 local residents and community organisations took over the management of the two adventure playgrounds in Sheffield, located in Pitsmoor and Highfields, following a campaign to save these vital community facilities from potential closure. Management committee members, community supporters and staff from both adventure playgrounds have regularly been in touch to exchange information, ideas and support. Concerned with the growing fragmentation of play services we joined up with colleagues at Manor After School Kids Klub (MASKK) and the Friends of Richmond Park, both organisations providing different types of play and activities for children in their communities.

Did you know that we run a Connecting through Play gathering 4 times a year for anyone involved or interested in all things play?

Our next gathering is later this month on 22nd September, 11.00-13.00, at Pitsmoor Adventure Playground, where we’ll get together to chat about what’s in store for the next year, share ideas, resources, and support each other.

So come along, whether you have been before or you are totally new to all things related to play and working with children and young people. We’d love to see you!

We are thrilled for Emma and the Valley Youth Hub team for winning this year's BBC Sheffield Make a Difference Community Group Award! 🥳🤩 This is a testament to all of the hard work, dedication and passion that has gone into Valley Youth Hub and giving children and young people across Gleadless Valley lots of playful opportunities! I think this means you can describe yourselves as multi-award winning now too as you also won the Community Impact Award at our Sheffield Play Awards early on this year! ✨🏆

This year’s National Playday theme is ‘Play – here, there, everywhere’, so we want to showcase all the wonderful play happening across the ‘here, there and everywhere’ of Sheffield today! We’ve had lots of fun on the swings during today’s Playing Out season at Gleadless Common whilst many of you have also sent in what you’ve been up to 🤪

Let us know in the comments what play you’ve been doing today and where you’ve been - we would love to hear from you! 👇

Happy National Play Day everyone! We'll be sharing more of what's happening across Sheffield today.

It is great to see a national Play Strategy being discussed in the media today and highlighting the great work that is happening in Leeds and other areas of the country (such a great conversation with Play England's Amber Ogunsanya-William on the beeb this morning!).

It's time to bring back a national play strategy for children in England Andy Burnham!
