Sheffield Play Partnership

Sheffield Play Partnership Promoting the benefits of play and playwork for the benefit of children across Sheffield. Winner of the 2026 Move More Changemaker Award 🏆

In 2014 local residents and community organisations took over the management of the two adventure playgrounds in Sheffield, located in Pitsmoor and Highfields, following a campaign to save these vital community facilities from potential closure. Management committee members, community supporters and staff from both adventure playgrounds have regularly been in touch to exchange information, ideas a

nd support. Concerned with the growing fragmentation of play services we joined up with colleagues at Manor After School Kids Klub (MASKK) and the Friends of Richmond Park, both organisations providing different types of play and activities for children in their communities.

We had over 60 people from across 31 different settings attend our Inaugural Sheffield Play Conference 2026 on Tuesday! What a great day it was and thank you to everyone who came and contributed to all of our discussions around play in Sheffield.

More photos to come soon but here's some of the lovely feedback and reflections from the day that we couldn't wait to share with you all.

Sarah and Joe will be away over the next week or so having a well earned rest, so bear with us as we take a little longer to respond.

8 of our team members had a great day yesterday taking part in the first Sheffield Play Partnership Play Conference. Team members took part in various sessions and will bring new ideas and thoughts. Days like yesterday are important as they help us ensure that we are continuously reflecting on our practice and developing to be the best we can. It is also great to meet others from across the city and region to share ideas and encourage each other.

The Move More Changemaker Award is now part of the furniture (Jarvis isn't, we're just not in the office right now)! We are proud to be supporting a network of playful people across Sheffield who are ensuring that children can access their right to play and getting them moving. This award is for everyone in Sheffield making this happen.

"I enjoyed the activities and they helped us to put ourselves in the place of the children. The questions encouraged discussion and different perspectives...thank you especially to Lucy for hosting well and sharing her wisdom & experience kindly."

We received this lovely feedback from one of the participants on our Discovering Play course at Stradbroke earlier this year. Lucy is the Play and Family Support Manager at Highfield Adventure Playground and also one of our trainers. We love to shout about our trainers and the amazing work they do! Well done Lucy ✨

Our next FREE Discovering Play Level 1 course (and last one for a little while) is taking place at Zest and starts in a month on Thursday 4th June. Book on now through our website.
