Last week saw our new intake receiving their first awards.
All have learned new skills, had fun and found fellowship with each other over the past few weeks and we are open every Thursday evening over the Summer Holidays for more.
(Posing as a group is a skill we'll work on later).

Went to the shady part of the park this evening with loads of water, buckets, paper cups and sponges and plenty of bottled water to drink.
Kids did short relay races filling cups with water and holding them above their heads to drop them in another bucket, then repeat.
The faster they attempted to go, the wetter they got.
First round was too easy so simply pierced a hole in the bottom of each cup and did the same.
Then did same kind of relay with sponges, and one passing wet sponges from the front to the back over their heads, before putting on goggles and having dodge ball fun with wet sponges in a small area.
Finished by having go cart relay races with passenger holding onto a full bucket of water while the rest of the team pushed and pulled the go cart over the bumpy ground (buckets were not full for long) then depositing what was left into a bigger bucket.
Very happy and very wet , but not overheated, kids at the end of it.
No one stuck in their sweltering room glued to a games console either.
Lots of laughs all round and a touching thank you from one of the kids to God for providing such a great evening.

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads and Father Figures out there.

But spare a thought for all the children and young people who have no dad's or similar figure, to share this special day with.

At the 19/20th Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association we have a special Father figure for all of us.

Our own John Kitchener was 89 less than two weeks ago and come September he will be in his 80th year of service from Boy to Man in serving our organisation and the community. Still taking part in beach games with the kids on our annual camp, and always helping with a smile.

He has three daughters of his own, but has been a Father figure to everyone who has served in our Company over the years and the others he has helped with.

So all our thanks go out on this special day to all the Positive Father figures out there.

Our senior staff spent last week at Scarborough helping our sister company 1st Farsley with our annual holiday.
Plenty of laughs, adventure, activities, fun and camararderie.
Looking forward to taking our young people next year too.

The annual week away is often the highlight for the kids, but we still have smaller adventures and other great activities each week, building their confidence for this throughout the year.

Had to change plans when the rain came as we got to the park yesterday but even back in the hall we had a great night of new experiences for the young people including the two brand new members we had.
They each got to experience a virtual reality paragliding flight one of our leaders did the previous weekend.
Some also got to try on the harness and all got to see a paraglider wing laid out and learned how it flies.
A brave six year old, who was afraid of heights, overcame her anxiety and soldiered on like a trooper.
Learned that brave people aren't those who are never afraid, but are those who carry on, even if they are afraid and smiled with pride at the end of it.
Also some excitement in trying on their uniforms, for the first time, ready for our next meeting.
Still spaces left for any new young adventurers wanting to give us a try.

7 new members, aged from 6 to 12 years old came in last week to start their adventure.
Lots of running around, building shelters, having water thrown on the shelters to see how good they were.
Pop and some chocolates from one of the games, laughter and getting to know each other.
This week we had another new starter and were visited by a police officer who showed everyone their equipment and the young people had a hands on experience with it all, trying on various pieces of safety equipment and "accidentally" putting on the handcuffs (we did have the keys handy so all went home un-restrained).
More running around, laughter and drinks before voting on what to do next week (it was an election night after all).
