‘Poppies for Parish’
This year, poppies are appearing throughout the Parish of Bradfield — in Oughtibridge, Upper and Lower Midhopstone, Stannington, Stacey Bank, Loxley, Storrs, Holdsworth, High Bradfield, Low Bradfield, Wadsley Park Village, Worrall, Wharncliffe Side, Hill Top, and Dungworth.
These wonderful displays have been made possible thanks to the amazing community spirit across our Parish. A heartfelt thank you goes to Stephen Hill, Linda Taylor, Councillor Jenny Morton, Jan and Pete Shield, Steve Frith, Slaters Aerials, Team Old Horns, Tony and the customers from the Blue Ball, Wharncliffe Side, Cath and Martin Ball, Worrall Enviromental Group, Richard Godley and of course to the driving force behind this mission — Councillor Jane Westwood-Gray and her husband Brett Westwood.
A special thanks also go to Whittaker Plant Hire for their generous contribution of six poppies to six local schools — a wonderful gesture helping to share remembrance with the next generation.
Together, you’ve helped make our Parish bloom with remembrance and pride.
Councillor Jane Westwood-Gray -
"Remembrance time has always meant a lot to me. My Mum who sadly passed away was the quintessential war baby born in 1940 and told me many times of her experiences and ultimately her first memories. It is because of her deep respect and thanks for the life she was allowed to live that both me and my husband wanted poppies for the Parish.
The lovely people that gave up their time to help install the lamp post poppies are truly appreciated and the Parish has come together as a community.
We all need to remember the ultimate sacrifice made by so many people and animals in securing our freedom that we have today. LEST WE FORGET."
