Something we are very proud of is Crafted, the brand name for the high quality bags, clothes and accessories made by and sold in aid of Seed of Hope!

Sometimes we receive a large order of these beautiful items here in the UK, selling them at community events to raise vital funds and showcasing the incredible skill level taught by the wonderful teachers.

Pictured here with a selection of Crafted items is Rhoda, a new Fashion and Fabric Design teacher at Seed of Hope Nairobi. Incredibly, Rhoda is a graduate herself, understanding more than most exactly how her students feel and what they need to make successes of themselves!

If you were to buy a Crafted item, what sort of thing would you like? A purse, rucksack, apron, scarf?

Our Chair of Trustees, Sophie Tanner, is very bravely climbing Mount Kenya on 13th June 2026 in support of young people at Seed of Hope! Please donate today https://buff.ly/0rh3C20 in support of this incredible challenge and make a HUGE difference to children and young adults in Kenya learning skills for self-reliant futures!

Some of you may remember that her challenge was originally due to go ahead in February. Sudden flooding meant that Sophie had to postpone her climb til June - another reminder of the very real affects of climate change.

Earlier this year, Seed of Hope was officially recognised as a 'greening' institution, after the team in Kenya added agribusiness training to the Seed of Hope curriculum for all students. It is vital that young people in Kenya know how best to grow food in this rapidly changing climate!

Last month, our partner-NGO collaborated with Montessori For Kenya to deliver a pioneering five-day training - the first of its kind in Kenya!

Designed for mothers and anyone working with children aged 0–3 years, the workshop taught practical skills in early childhood care, empowering both caregivers and young children.

Seed of Hope were invited to lead sessions on mental health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), because of their vital role in safeguarding and improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

Hopefully the first of many collaborations, the workshop was special as it saw five young mothers from Seed of Hope take part. Now equipped with new knowledge, they’re sharing what they’ve learned within their communities, extending the impact far beyond the classroom!

A vital ingredient in breaking cycles of poverty and exploitation? JOY.

You may have noticed how smiley Seed of Hope students are in their photos. The environment of passion and excitement the team of local experts in Kenya create is a key part of what makes Seed of Hope so successful, with an outstanding 97% completion rate last year, compared to the 63% sector average in Kenya.

These ambitious young people are being supported to reach their potential, having fun along the way - we love to see it!

As Mental Health Awareness week comes to a close, we wanted to highlight Tom's* story, a recent Entrepreneurship, Finance and Computer skills (EFC) graduate from Seed of Hope.

Something very special about Seed of Hope is the often ongoing relationship between the dedicated local experts and the graduates.

Breaking free from poverty and exploitation is not a fairytale story - things happen, graduates face unforeseen challenges.

So, another way graduates are supported is via returning to Seed of Hope for further counselling and wellbeing support. For some young people like Tom, wellbeing challenges continue even when they are earning an income. He was able to return to the loving team and gain further help:

"After graduating from Seed of Hope, I have been working with a local cyber café and taking up freelance tech support jobs. But life doesn’t stop being difficult after school, and I realised I still needed support. That’s why I kept coming back to Seed of Hope for counselling sessions, even as a graduate... These post-graduation sessions have been essential to my personal and professional growth."

Well done Tom, every one is rooting for you!

We're loving the opportunity to spotlight our free counselling and life skills provision this Mental Health Awareness week!

In 2025, 44% of students (471 to be precise!) chose to have one-to-one counselling. The rest took part in group counselling sessions, where they are encouraged to break down the stigma around mental health, together. Topics such as peer pressure, gender based violence, gender allyship and substance abuse are also discussed.

Through group counselling and additional 'life skills' classes, the local experts at our partner-NGO equip Seed of Hope graduates to act as role models and examples, sharing their learning and empowered perspectives with their siblings, parents and communities long after they have left the programme.
