After a gap of some 85 years, Crookes has its Brass Band back again, in association with Grimethorpe Education. Junior band / Beginners 6.00-7.00

The band meets on a Wednesday 7.30-9.15 at St Mary’s Church in Walkley.

What a night! A packed out hall, a fantastic soloist, and brilliant performances from Crookes Brass Band, Crookes Development Band and Brassworks Sheffield.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our Spring Concert at the weekend.

Nights like this only happen because of the people behind them - our dedicated players, helpful deps, amazing volunteers, and loyal supporters who continue to back everything we do.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

With the main crookes band having a well earned week off after their exploits at the Yorkshire area in Huddersfield - the development band moved into the main church last night.

This fantastic expanding band is filled with our improving young players, adult learners and people returning to playing after a break.

They’re in need of a couple (or more!) tuba players as well as cornets and maybe an tuned percussion player (piano players - we can teach you this!) so please get in touch if you’d like to come along on a Wednesday and have fun playing a range of music in a supportive environment!

Huge congratulations to on their brilliant 2nd place in the Championship Section yesterday.

Special mention to our band leader, tenor horn extraordinaire and everyone’s favourite band dad, Mr Jim Fletcher. We’re all incredibly proud of you.

Also massive congratulations to our very own Andy Sales! A superb Eb bass player, stalwart pub-goer and top-tier pal who also came 2nd with in the Third Section and secured a place at the National Finals.

Yesterday we took Indian Summer by Eric Ball to the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships.

As always, our approach was simple: no extra rehearsals, no sectionals... just turn up, play our best and enjoy the experience together.

And in true Crookes style, it’s another 6th place finish for us! This time complete with a certificate to prove it.

We’re really proud of the performance and the effort every single player put in. Everyone on that stage gave it their all and that’s all you can ask for.

One of the things we love most about this band is the way we do things. We go in laughing and we come out laughing. Contests are great experiences - for some of our players it was their very first time on a contest stage, and for others it was a chance to do it in a completely different way.

A big thank you to Rachael, John Lee and Jane for what may have been their final contest with us, and to Minesh, Demetris and Adam for joining us and being part of the team.

And of course, thanks to Jim for getting the best out of us and keeping us smiling along the way.

We had a brilliant night at the Area Preview, kindly organised by our friends

Every band gave a cracking performance and it was great to get some really valuable feedback from adjudicator Sandy Smith ahead of the big day.

We’re still processing the fact that Jim was right about a few things but we won’t dwell on that too much.

We’re absolutely thrilled to have been invited to play at Area Preview Night.

Come and hear our performance of Indian Summer by Eric Ball ahead of the Yorkshire Area Championships. It's a great chance to support all the bands before the big day.

Tickets are just £5… that’s basically £1 a band. An absolute bargain!

One of the things we’re most proud of at Crookes Brass Band is the opportunity our players have to grow, develop and experience more.

Last night, one of our brilliant tenor horn players Georgia Kirk stepped up to play Second Horn with Grimethorpe Colliery Band, alongside our very own conductor Jim Fletcher on First Horn.

Thanks to our link with and we have access to some amazing opportunities, working with some of the best musicians in the UK and occasionally, the chance to sit in some very special seats.
