At midday today, one of our trustees will be giving a webinar and talking about the importance of recognising Florence Li Tim-Oi, in a talk titled "Embeddedness and Belonging". The webinar is free to join and details are in the link below.

Big institutions shape who feels they belong, often in quiet ways, through the stories they tell, the names they use, and what they choose to permanently recognise. When those stories aren’t built into the fabric of an organisation, progress can slip backwards over time.

Join us on 18 February (12:00–1:00) for Embeddedness and Belonging: Global Majority Heritage, Belonging, and the Church, facilitated by Revd Nam (Diverse Hands Together), winner of a National Diversity Award at last year’s ceremony as a Positive Role Model for Race, Religion and Faith. Mark shares his personal journey and explores practical ways organisations can move beyond one-off gestures and create inclusion that lasts.

The Li Tim-Oi Foundation rejoices at the appointment of the Rt Revd Sarah Mullally DBE as the new Archbishop of Canterbury, the first woman ever to hold this position.

We are delighted that The Church of England has chosen Dame Sarah to lead the Church over the coming years, recognising her qualities of wisdom, integrity, dedication and compassion, as well as acknowledging her faithful leadership in other roles over many years.

The Li Tim-Oi Foundation was set up in honour of the first woman to be ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church worldwide. Florence Li Tim-Oi was ordained by the Bishop of Hong Kong over 80 years ago and ministered faithfully in spite of censure by the then Archbishop of Canterbury.

Archbishop Sarah will be a beacon of hope to the women who are still denied ordination in the Anglican Communion, and to all those who continue to face prejudice and discrimination.

We will be praying for Archbishop Sarah, that the Holy Spirit will guide and guard her as she takes up this challenging role.

Today we give thanks for Florence Li Tim-Oi (1907–1992), ordained on 25 January 1944 as the first woman priest in the Anglican Communion. Serving amid war, controversy, and silence, she chose faithfulness, humility, and hope—and in her footsteps many women now follow.

Not least among them is the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, who will have her Confirmation of Election service this Wednesday at St Paul's Cathedral—a powerful sign of the living legacy of Florence’s courage and calling.

We invite you to support the call for The Church of England to commemorate Florence Li Tim-Oi with a feast day:

Wonderful to see Rev. Kaarina Leong helping others pursue their vocation within The Church of England. We were able to offer Kaarina a book grant this year, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Florence Li Tim-Oi's ordination and in partnership with The Teahouse.

UKME Ordinands + Curates

Absolutely brilliant to see Rev. Kaarina Leong join the committee for UKME Ordinands + Curates. Launched in 2021, the network seeks to support and encourage ordinands and curates of UKME/GMH in The Church of England within Dioceses and Theological Colleges in their journey towards priesthood.
