We wrote to Northern Railway (the railway company responsible for Chathill) asking them to keep pressing Network Rail to speed the repair of the waiting room at Chathill.
We have also contacted David Smith MP and county councillor Guy Renner-Thompson to ask them to put pressure on Network Rail.
Following the visit of Stuart Smith of Lumo we have also suggested that the station name be expanded to ‘Chathill for Seahouses and the Northumberland Coast’ . A more realistic name which reflects the station’s purpose.
Still no sign of more stopping trains!!!

Saturday 27th June 2026 During last year’s countdown of Britain’s Top 10 Quirky Bus Routes, blog reader Stephen got in touch with an intriguing question…. “Not sure whether this meets t…

We are pleased to advise that we were represented at the mayors ’Rail Vision Workshop’ held in Newcastle on 2nd July.
The mayor’s team are well aware of our campaign for more trains at Chathill and we felt there was a positive attitude towards our requests. Having said that there is still clearly some way to go until we actually get more trains!!
On a different not the 918 bus timetable is being altered from 27th July when we will lose the morning Chathill to Belford bus and the Belford to Beadnell part of the evening bus TO Chathill (it will start from Beadnell)
The morning bus TO Chathill remains unaltered as does the evening bus FROM Chathill (other than it now runs all the way to Berwick).

Recently CRAG hosted a visit to Chathill and the coast by Stuart Jones the MD of First Group open access (of which Lumo is the best known operation). Stuart could see the potential of Chathill as a station to serve the Northumberland coast. We wish the rest of the railway operators had the same insight!!

We posted that we have sent proposals for more trains to stop at Chathill to the mayor.
We have now heard back from the mayor’s office.
Our proposals were passed to Trans Pennine Express, Northern Railway and Network Rail (all part of the proposed Great British Railways).
Sadly, but not unexpectedly, the railway industry does not appear to have seriously considered the proposals but have stated that they would alter the new East Coast timetable (which we pointed out they WOULDN’T).
In fairness the mayor’s team have , so far, done their best but we are up against the inertia of the railway industry!
On a brighter note representatives of CRAG have been invited to attend the mayor’s ‘Rail Vision Engagement’ workshop in early July.
We will keep you posted as to how that goes.
We WILL have more trains at Chathill.

We express our thanks to County Councillors Wendy Pattison and Guy Renner Thompson for continuing the campaign to reopen the waiting room at Chathill.
Last week they met Network Rail on site to discuss options.
Regrettably it appears that the options for repair are getting more expensive including having to dismantle and rebuild the whole building.
We do hope a more efficient and cheaper solution can be found.
Network Rail are in discussions with Northumberland County Council to find a solution.

Now is the time for an update.
As previously mentioned CRAG produced a paper with proposals to alter the local Northern railway service and to stop a number of fast Trans. Pennine Express (TPE) trains at Chathill.
There was some dialogue with Mayor Kim’s people and , although we suggested an informal meeting of all concerned, the mayor has passed our proposals to TPE and Northern.
So….we await a response from the mayor who is doubtless awaiting a response from the rail operators.
We will update (hopefully) soon@
