We express our thanks to County Councillors Wendy Pattison and Guy Renner Thompson for continuing the campaign to reopen the waiting room at Chathill.
Last week they met Network Rail on site to discuss options.
Regrettably it appears that the options for repair are getting more expensive including having to dismantle and rebuild the whole building.
We do hope a more efficient and cheaper solution can be found.
Network Rail are in discussions with Northumberland County Council to find a solution.

Now is the time for an update.
As previously mentioned CRAG produced a paper with proposals to alter the local Northern railway service and to stop a number of fast Trans. Pennine Express (TPE) trains at Chathill.
There was some dialogue with Mayor Kim’s people and , although we suggested an informal meeting of all concerned, the mayor has passed our proposals to TPE and Northern.
So….we await a response from the mayor who is doubtless awaiting a response from the rail operators.
We will update (hopefully) soon@

We have been a bit quiet lately but behind the scenes there has been activity.
Northern Railway report that, at long last, it looks as if the waiting room is going to be repaired this summer.
The departure screens and PA are planned but there is a problem with an under track crossing which is slowing progress.
In CRAG we have produced a paper showing how a number of Trans Pennine Express trains could stop at Chathill and this has been passed to the mayor’s team. We are concerned that the momentum on this is maintained.

Today had a good meeting with Ryan Hogg of the Northumberland Loop Campaign.
They are working hard for a new service linking Newcastle,Bedlington and north towards Berwick.
Another worthy rail development.

Good news today in that Chathill’s passenger usage increased by around 25% for the year ending March 2025. Still only 1,580 per year so lots to go for.
The 918 bus has certainly helped.
Don’t forget the bus and rail timetable changes on Monday 15th December.
I will post details soon.

Some good news today.
Councillor Guy Renner Thompson has been in touch with Network Rail regarding the closed waiting room at Chathill.
It appears Network Rail are going to start repair work next summer (originally it was going to be 2027 so real progress). Thanks Guy.

Northern Railway is proposing to install Information Screens and public address at Chathill station.
This is encouraging as , when we obtain more train services, current service information will be displayed.
We are pressing for a bus shelter type structure on the south platform at Chathill pending the repair of the main waiting room.

Tomorrow 27th September is a key date in not only railway, or British but in World history.
200 years ago the first public railway train ran from Shildon via Darlington to Stockton and history was made.
Now railways cover vast parts of the globe and , in this country, are becoming more and more key to transport development.
Having said all this we press on to push for some of this railway revival to come to Chathill and our urgent need for MORE TRAINS
