The Burton-upon-Stather Beer Festival is perhaps the biggest event in our village.
And it only happens because of the generosity of our sponsors, and of course you the public attending the event.

So let’s have a little fun. Take your Beer Festival glass out with you the next time you are on a journey, and take a photograph of your glass and the venue. Let’s see how many locations we can take our beer glasses to. It’s not about distance away from Burton. It’s not about the contents of the glass. But it is about promoting the beer festival and our wonderful sponsors.

So here’s my photo’s ( Steve Jackson & Pauline Jackson ) We are in a French village called Folleux on the river Villaine. It’s rather like the bottom pub, being on the river Trent.

And to add one further question to generate a little interest. Who is the Sponsor of this particular glass? (I’ll reveal at a later date).

Please post your photos. We have several different glass sponsors, so let’s see more.
Let’s see how many locations we can visit. And include the hashtag so that we can track responses.

BSHG were thrilled to be able to help out Burton United Football Club with this project and to sponsor the Girls U12 Team strip.
Within our Group Constitution it is written "To improve the area known as Burton Upon Stather & it’s Parish for the
benefit of the inhabitants of the area.
To encourage the goodwill and involvement of the wider community.
To foster community spirit and encourage civic pride."
Who could have picked a more on point cause than this? 🤷‍♀️
Congratulations to all at BUFC, you should all be very proud of what you are creating 👏👏👏👏

Today is the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, the Normandy Landings.

Our village played an important part in top secret D-Day planning, hosting Canadian Regiments training for river crossings, their next stop being the beaches of Northern France on the 6th June.

A unit of the 79th Armoured Division, men with diverse skill sets who were taken from numerous regiments to form the new Assault Training and Development Centre (River Crossing Wing), training on Duplex Drive Amphibious Tanks and later testing their ancillaries known as Hobart's Funnies.

Please enjoy this piece from BBC Sounds Secret Lincolnshire Series with Sally Fairfax recorded on the riverbank where all this took place in 1944.

The amphibious trials were held on the river Trent.
