We want to address recent events concerning the raising of an unauthorised flag on the Saundersfoot Community Council flagpole. Please be assured that we take this matter extremely seriously. The flag was removed as quickly as possible and the incident has been reported to the Police. Regency Hall’s CCTV footage is also being reviewed as part of the investigation.

On behalf of the Community Council, Cllr Alec Cormack (Chair), wishes to offer a sincere apology to anyone who has been upset or offended by this unauthorised act, in particular to members of our local Ukrainian community. We know many of you have sought refuge here in Pembrokeshire after the devastating invasion of your homeland and we deeply regret that this incident may have caused you further distress.

Saundersfoot is a community built on kindness, respect and support for one another and we stand firmly by those values. We are pleased that the Pembrokeshire flag is flying again (as pictured).

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan.

The occasion was observed with a simple yet dignified wreath-laying ceremony and a two-minute silence at the War Memorial outside St Issell’s Church.

Four wreaths were laid:
by Mrs Lynn Knibbs, on behalf of the Children of Far East Prisoners of War,
by Mr Mike Knibbs, on behalf of The Royal British Legion,
by Mr Gethin Hughes, on behalf of Saundersfoot Youth Club, and
by Cllr Rosemary Hayes, on behalf of Saundersfoot Community Council.

We were especially honoured by the presence of Mr Duncan Hilling, a resident of Saundersfoot, who served in Japan during the Second World War.

New Councillors

We’re absolutely delighted to introduce not one, but two fantastic new Community Councillors — Bev Bennett and Rob Thomas. Both are Saundersfoot residents and share a real passion for getting involved and making a difference.

Bev is already a familiar face to many, with her hands full in all sorts of local groups — from the RNLI Saundersfoot shop and fundraising team, to Saundersfoot Social (supporting adults with learning difficulties and additional needs), St Issell’s WI, and PIVOT (our wonderful Home From Hospital team). As Bev puts it: “I am delighted to have another outlet to effectively serve the village.” Well, Bev — we’re just as delighted you’ve chosen SCC as that outlet!

Rob brings a wealth of experience from his career in Health & Safety, contract management, procurement, and budgeting — plus years as a Project Manager overseeing resources, programmes, and budgets up to £15 million. On top of that, he’s been a dedicated school governor for more than 25 years. Rob told us: “I take a keen interest in what is going on and am looking forward to having the opportunity to contribute.”

A huge warm welcome to you both — we can’t wait to work alongside you in helping our community thrive!

Victory in Japan Ceremony August 15th

A simple VJ Day ceremony will take place on Friday 15th August at the St. Issell's war memorial at 11:45am. After wreath laying we will observe the two minutes silence at 12 noon.

If you wish to lay a wreath please email [email protected] in advance so that we can make suitable arrangements.

They might not be quite as cute as the goats 🐐… but they’re definitely just as hardworking! 💪

A big shoutout to Cllrs Alec Cormack and Tony Wall (plus Cllr Eleanor Jones who was there too but was behind the camera!) for a bramble-busting afternoon at St Issell’s cemetery.

Turns out, being a Community Councillor sometimes means swapping meetings for machetes — or at least a sturdy pair of gloves! 🌿😂

We’re all set and ready to go for the St Issell’s Flower Festival, kicking off tomorrow from 10am! 🌸

We’re celebrating some of the fun things we’ve been up to lately — and we’ve got a special edition of our newsletter that you’ll only be able to see at the Festival.

Hope to see some of you there — it’s going to be blooming fabulous! 💐😊

Huge thanks to Cllr Eleanor Jones for her hard work getting this set up for us.

🚌 Have your say on local buses!

Transport for Wales is currently consulting on the proposed local bus network for South West Wales — and this could have a big impact on services that many of us in the village rely on.

It’s really important that our voices are heard, so please take a few minutes to give your input. The more people who respond, the stronger our community’s voice will be.

A number of drop-in consultation events are being held across the region over the coming weeks. This is an opportunity to view the plans, meet the TfW team and ask any questions that you may have.

The following events are planned:

28 August – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Phoenix Community Centre, Goodwick
5 September – 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Haverhub, Haverfordwest
10 September – 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. De Valence, Tenby

You can also give feedback online (https://haveyoursay.tfw.wales/bus-reform)

The deadline for responses is 23rd September 2025.

Let’s help shape a bus network that works for all of us! 🗣️✅
