🌿CALLING ALL NATURE LOVERS! 🌿

As part of Big Green Week, help us capture a vital "snapshot" of local wildlife at our FREE Bioblitz at Millbridge Brook Meadows! Whether you're a nature expert or just love a walk in the fresh air, we need your help to protect our local environment.

This data directly funds and shapes local conservation work (like recent hedge laying and new butterfly banks), helping us fight the gradual loss of our local nature.

⏰ Times: 9:30am, 1:00pm, and 6:00pm
📍 Meeting Point: The Eco Hub (for a short walk to the meadows)
💰 Cost: FREE!

We need a friendly team of volunteers for the walks:

👀 Spotters & Listeners: To find hidden wildlife.
✍️ Scribes: To log our findings.
📱 Techies: To help use the ObsID and iRecord apps.
🏡 Gardeners: Can’t make it? Count the wildlife in your own garden on the day and message us your findings!

Would you like to find out how to improve the energy efficiency of your home? Cambridge Retrofit Hub will be at the Eco Hub demonstrating how you can improve your home using low cost and no cost methods.

Find out how to ventilate your home to avoid mould; better insulate and seal leaks; and take advantage of renewable technologies. Collect tips for summer cooling as well as winter heating.

In addition to the presentation there will be a Q&A session, hands on materials and an opportunity to talk 1-1 with experts in home energy advice.

The Climate Change Committee’s new report is a clear reminder that climate resilience starts at home and in our communities: A Well-Adapted UK - Climate Change Committee

Simple actions all make a difference:

🏠 improving ventilation and shading

☀️ checking on vulnerable neighbours during hot weather

🛡️ installing basic flood protection

💧 cutting household water use

🌿 supporting local green spaces

The report also shows that communities have a vital role in creating cool spaces, flood readiness plans, and nature-rich neighbourhoods that can better handle climate impacts. A safer, more resilient UK is something we build together - one home, one street, and one community at a time.

Meet at the Gamlingay Eco Hub (Gamlingay Community Centre)

The day will start with an optional 1 hour walking tour from the Eco Hub through Mill Bridge Meadow, where you will have a clear view of the Gamlingay Community Turbine which has been providing clean energy for the village since 2013! We will then continue through the Lowerfield, St Mary’s Field Cemetary, and the Gamlingay Foodbank and Fridge and back to the Eco Hub. The walk will be guided by community volunteers and will be entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather.
