Fans of Bagpuss, the classic Kent-made childrens' series, will remember the character Professor Yaffle — the grumpy scholastic woodpecker — with affection. The intrepid Richborough Volunteer Team continue to monitor and explore the site’s rich natural life. More owl pellets have been expertly dissected to show what Richborough’s night birds are eating while we are sleeping. In one pellet alone we discovered 150 bones with at least one rare field vole and a mouse.
Of course the Roman’s themselves would have been equally fascinated by our team’s discovery – although exactly what portents they’d have made from this huge pile of little bones we can only imagine!
