Gonzales update!

He is doing much better today and his breathing is not taking him so much effort. He is taking all his medication like an absolute superstar as we think he knows it is helping.

However, we have had the final vet bill and also the costs for his transport being cancelled. Gonzales mum is still waiting patiently for him but he will not be leaving until we have vetinary clearance.

We are so grateful to those who have donated already. To cover his vet costs and additional transport we are need to raise £1000 (out of hours care is steep! And his medication was the best he could have to make him comfortable).

Even if you are able to donate £5 we would be so grateful so that we can make sure his bill is covered and continue to provide for the others in our care.

We potentially have 3 horses coming to us in June so every £ helps a here is a picture of our beautiful boy 😍

We need your help!

Just as Gonzales was about to leave he became a little bit poorly. He started coughing and the stress led to a colic - we had to call the out of hours emergency vet. This morning on his early check he seemed well and demolished his breakfast.

An hour later he was finding his breathing hard again. We had to call the vet out again who has said all the dry weather has given him some difficulties. So he is on medication to help settle everything and will not be able to go to his wonderful new home until we are happy.

He may need further treatment we are seeing how this goes for now with all we are doing however we nee your help.

If you can please donate to our fundraiser, no matter the amount we will be so incredibly grateful as being a new base this is hitting us hard so we can pay off his vet bill and continue to support him and the other horses in our care

Second Chance Horse Rescue UK (SCHR UK) is the UK branch of Second Chance Horse Rescue Malta.

When horses are rehomed to the UK, circumstances can sometimes change and they may need to return to our care. SCHR UK was established to ensure that every horse we rehome always has a safe place to come back to, no matter what happens.

Every horse that arrives at our UK base undergoes a comprehensive assessment period of at least six weeks. During this time, they receive the highest standard of care, including any necessary veterinary treatment, farrier work, dental care, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation support.

Each horse then follows an individual rehabilitation programme tailored to its specific needs. This allows us to assess their physical and emotional wellbeing, identify any additional support required, and help them regain confidence, comfort, and quality of life and the hope we can find them their forever homes. If we feel they need to stay with us the base offers a safe haven for this.

Our base is run entirely by dedicated volunteers. All funds raised go directly towards the care and rehabilitation of our horses, helping to provide:

Hay, feed, and bedding
Rehabilitation equipment and facilities
Field maintenance and improvements
Veterinary treatment
Farrier services
Dental care
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation support
Every horse deserves the very best. With your support, we can continue to provide these beautiful animals with the care, safety, and second chance they deserve.
