1,290 houses on Saltford's Green Belt! Huge loss of the local countryside landscape that underpins our health and well-being, and road congestion even worse (if that is possible!)☹️The impact on Saltford and the surrounding area will be profound if this draft Local Plan is finally adopted.
The climate change induced summer of heatwaves and drought we have just experienced in 2026 with serious consequences for food production and food security should be the signal to Government and Local Planning Authorities to think seriously again about where the new affordable houses the nation needs should be built (near employment).
It is alarming that we need to protect the countryside, the natural environment and the nation's food security and well-being from our own government.

A draft Local Plan for Bath and North East Somerset will be considered by councillors on 10 September.

The plan sets out where new homes, jobs and key infrastructure could be built over the next 20 years, helping to ensure growth happens in the right places with the schools, healthcare, transport and community facilities needed to support it.

It has been informed by feedback from residents, businesses, landowners, developers and community organisations through earlier consultation stages.

The 2027 edition of the popular Saltford Calendar featuring some wonderful photographs by local photographers is now available from Saltford Community Library & Post Office at £8.50 each.

As in previous years the calendar has been produced by Saltford Community Association and Saltford Environment Group. All net proceeds will be split between SCA, SEG and the Saltford Community Library and Post Office to help further their work supporting the community.

PLEASE NOTE: Temporary hosepipe ban in Saltford from Thursday 27th August.

💧🚫 From 00:01am on Thursday 27 August, a temporary hosepipe ban will come into effect across our supply area. This follows a drought order issued by the Environment Agency to help protect water resources in the River Severn.

Following months of hot, dry weather, significantly below-average rainfall, low river levels and continued high demand, our water resources are under increasing pressure. These conditions are affecting water supplies for people and the health of river systems and wildlife habitats.

We remain in drought. While rain is forecast this week, it won't make up for months of exceptionally dry weather. Our rivers and water resources need sustained rainfall to recover, so please keep using water wisely.

During the hosepipe ban, you must not use a hosepipe to:

👉 Water your garden
👉 Clean your car, patio or driveway
👉 Fill a paddling pool, swimming pool or hot tub
👉 Clean walls, paths or windows

Great to see this important work being done keeping the railway path through Saltford safe for all users.

Officers from Bath Outers Neighbourhood Patrol Team have been conducting patrols today on the Saltford to Bitton cycle track as part of a Community Reassurance Plan aimed at preventing serious disorder and keeping the route safe for everyone.

It was the perfect day for a cycle and officers engaged with people using the track as well as a few boaters and paddleboarders using the waterways. If you use the Saltford to Bitton cycle track and have concerns you'd like to share, please come and speak to officers while they're on patrol or report information through 101 or reporting online.

Around 40% of Britain's food is imported, including 80% of fruit and 47% of vegetables, making the UK more vulnerable to food price shocks than much of Europe. Many of our suppliers are under growing climate pressure: 90% of the top 20 countries supplying the UK's healthy staples are rated as moderately to severely vulnerable to climate breakdown, threatening future yields and exports.

Much of this risk is avoidable. Apples, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and pears, five of the UK's nine most-purchased fruits, all grow well here, yet we produce less than 40% of what we consume for four of them.

To help fill this gap, we need to back Britsh farmers on food procurement. The government should deliver on its pledge and source 50% of public sector food locally. It could add £1 billion a year to British farming and create a more sustainable and resilient food system.
