THIS SATURDAY!

Please come and support us and Keeping It Clean At Saltburn to go nurdle hunting on Saltburn Beach.

What's a nurdle?! Come along and find out 🤗

We will be unleashing the Nurdleator to try to catch those pesky little plastic pellets 👍

Saturday, 10:30, by the Victorian shelter on the Lower Prom

🚨 NURDLE ALERT! 🚨

We're going to try to clean up some of these plastic pellets (nurdles) at the September Beach Clean this Saturday but this is optional - if you want to just litter pick that's great too.

For the nurdlers, please bring a sieve and dustpan & brush. We've been advised that you shouldn't touch nurdles with bare hands so gloves will be provided, and ideally your sieve should never be used for food again after collecting nurdles (bring an old one!).

We're also borrowing the nurdle screening machine from Marske Litter Action to hopefully clear more up.

See you all Saturday!

Join Plastic Free Communities Saltburn and Keeping It Clean At Saltburn on Saturday 5th September for a special nurdle clean of Saltburn beach!

The big spill in the mouth of the river Tyne which happened earlier in the summer has started affecting our local beach. We can do a lot to remove much of the plastic pollution and gather valuable evidence of the impact of this incident.

Let's show the best of community action!

📢 This is a call to action! 📢
If you're able to, please bring a sieve to the September Beach Clean to help us clean up some nurdles.

Some of you may have already heard about the nurdles but check out this link for more information:

We are often quite removed from the production of virgin plastic, but as Plastic Free Communities, we often see nurdles on our beach cleans.

Incidents like the recent spill at Tyneside hammer home how important it is for us to keep the pressure on!

We need to
- Reduce the amount of plastic being made through targets set by Government
- Reduce single use plastics in our supply chains
- Swap out plastic for safer alternatives
- Support a Deposit Return Scheme and stronger Extended Producer Responsibility schemes

Thank you to Surfers Against Sewage for working with local councillors to put pressure on Government to take action, and keeping people informed of what's happened further north on our beautiful coastline.

The National Emergency Briefings aim to make the public aware of the challenges we face, and what we can do to help.

We supported 1st Saltburn Brownie Guides with their litter pick this evening, and what a brilliant job they did! ✨

A lot of ghost nets, plastic bottles and a huge flip flop were amongst the haul! 🩴

If you are part of a local group that would like to organise a beach clean or local litter pick, then please get in touch. ✉️
