A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Salford Histories Festival at St Thomas’ Church yesterday.

It was wonderful to see so many people taking an interest in Salford’s history, sharing memories, asking questions and helping to make the day such a success. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

And for those who joined us for the Crypt for a Quid tour — you don’t necessarily have to wait until next year’s festival to go down into the crypt again!

If you enjoyed the tour and would like to share the experience with friends, family, a community group or organisation, we may be able to arrange a one-off private group visit, provided there are sufficient numbers.

If that sounds of interest, just send us a message.

Thank you once again for supporting Salford’s history — and helping us keep its stories alive.

History is a baton passed quietly from one generation to the next.

There is no finishing line, no final lap. Only time — that most precious of commodities — placed briefly in our hands.

We cannot change the road already travelled, but we can learn from those who walked it before us: from their courage and their mistakes, their struggles and their achievements.

Our task is not simply to remember the past, but to carry its wisdom forward.

To know where we came from. To understand what shaped us. And, for the short time the baton is ours, to use that knowledge wisely.

Then, when our turn is done, we pass it on — leaving the next generation not only the story of yesterday, but the inspiration to shape a better tomorrow.

Your new view of St Thomas’ Church from Broughton Road, as of this morning….

Not too long to wait now…

We couldn’t ask for a better host for the Sound of Salford music heritage show than Tony Kinsella — someone who knows how to bring warmth, humour and a genuine sense of occasion to an evening.

Tony will be guiding us through a century of Salford music, memories and stories, helping to turn the night into more than simply a concert. It will be a shared experience — familiar songs, forgotten gems and those moments when a piece of music takes you back to another time and place.

Come and join Tony, our performers and fellow Salfordians for an evening of nostalgia, pride and great music.

Born by river, canal, factory and pit, Salford has always made its own noise. On the last Saturday in September and the first Saturday in October, St Thomas’ Church opens its doors to the songs, stories, struggles and spirit of our city. Two Saturdays celebrating the people who built Salford, sang Salford, remembered Salford—and still call it home. Welcome to our heritage. It was hard-earned but is free for you to witness. Come and join us.

A church, politician, two prize winning authors and history, in fact lots of history. A delightful mix served up at the recent Salford Histories Festival which was, by all accounts, a resounding success. So much so, we’re doing it all again next year. Bigger and better in ‘26. And why not? After all it’s the City of Salford’s Centenary year, which also marks 250 years since the first service at St Thomas’s Chapel of Ease.
