💜 Volunteers' Week 2026 💜

Today, we're celebrating all of the incredible volunteers who have been part of the Home-Start St Helens family – past and present.

These photos capture just some of the amazing people who have given their time, compassion and support to local families over the years. Every volunteer has played a part in helping parents through challenging times, building confidence, reducing isolation and making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families across St Helens.

Whether you volunteered for a few months or many years, whether you're still supporting families today or have moved on to new adventures, you will always be part of the Home-Start story.

To every volunteer who has walked through our door and shared their time, experience and heart with local families – thank you. Home-Start St Helens simply wouldn't be what it is without you.

We are also looking forward to celebrating with our wonderful volunteers on 19th June at our Volunteer Celebration Event, where we'll have the opportunity to come together and recognise the incredible contribution our volunteers make to families across our community.

Volunteer Spotlight – Audrey 🎉

This Volunteers' Week, we're delighted to celebrate Audrey, who has been a valued member of the Home-Start St Helens family for the past four years.

After finishing work, Audrey spotted an advert looking for new volunteers and decided to apply. Little did she know that decision would lead to years of supporting local families and making a lasting difference in our community. Audrey was part of Home-Start St Helens' very first online Preparation Course during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been with us ever since.

Over the last four years, Audrey has supported many families, sharing her time, kindness and unwavering support. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Audrey said she loves meeting new people and passing on her knowledge and life experience. She also told us that she thinks of Home-Start St Helens as a family – something that perfectly reflects the warmth and connection she brings to the role.

Audrey is an incredible asset to our team. She is hilarious, witty, caring and always ready with a smile. She brings positivity wherever she goes and, of course, is never without a fabulous set of nails! 💅✨

One of a kind and greatly appreciated, Audrey's dedication over the last four years has touched the lives of so many families and colleagues alike.

Volunteer Spotlight – Maggie 🎉

Over the past year, Maggie has become an invaluable part of the Home-Start St Helens family. Since joining us, she has supported three local families, offering kindness, encouragement and a consistent presence when it has been needed most.

Maggie's Home-Start journey began in a way that perfectly reflects her generous nature. She originally popped in simply to donate some bedding, but Lorna and Annmarie quickly recognised something special. They knew she had "volunteer" written all over her face and, thankfully, never let her leave!

What started as a simple bedding donation turned into the recruitment of one of our most valued volunteers. Maggie has become an incredible asset to the team – fearless, kind, caring, fun, consistent and reliable. Her warmth and commitment have made a real difference to the families she has supported and to everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside her.

Volunteer Spotlight – Lisa 🎉

Lisa has been part of the Home-Start family for an incredible 12 years, having completed her initial volunteer training in March 2014. Throughout that time, she has remained a dedicated and valued member of our team, regularly attending training courses, coffee mornings, volunteer meet-ups and celebrations.

Over the years, Lisa has supported countless families across St Helens, offering encouragement, understanding and practical support when it has been needed most. Her wealth of experience is second to none, and she continues to make a positive difference to the lives of parents and children alike.

Reflecting on her time with Home-Start, Lisa shared how proud she is of every family she has been linked with and the progress they have made along the way. She also spoke about the confidence, skills and experience she has gained through volunteering, making her journey just as rewarding as the support she provides.

Known for her caring nature, sense of humour and unwavering commitment, Lisa brings warmth and positivity to everyone she meets. Her kindness, dedication and years of service truly embody the spirit of Home-Start.

Thank you, Lisa, for the countless hours you have given, the families you have supported, and the difference you continue to make in our community. We are incredibly grateful for everything you have contributed over the past 12 years.

Volunteer Spotlight - Cathy 🎉

Two years ago, Cathy began her Home-Start journey with the same mixture of excitement and nerves that many new volunteers experience. Since then, she has supported families with compassion, encouragement and understanding, making a lasting difference to the lives of those she has worked alongside.

When speaking to our newest volunteers, Cathy shared these inspiring words:

"This role isn't about fixing people – it's about walking alongside them, at their pace, in their world."

And perhaps most importantly:

"You already have everything you need to be a brilliant volunteer. Your empathy, your life experience, your ability to sit with someone in their hardest moments – that's what makes the difference."

Thank you, Cathy, for your dedication, kindness, commitment and unwavering support to local families. Thank you for sharing your time, your experience, and your heart. You truly embody the spirit of Home-Start, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have contributed over the past two years.

Wow… what an amazing day! 💛

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us at our Fun Day today at Parr Children’s Centre. We were absolutely blown away by the number of families who came along to support and spend the day with us 🥰

We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all of our fantastic stall holders for taking the time to speak with the Parr community and share the amazing support and services available locally 🌟
