🌍 Refugee Week 2026 – Courage Brings Change 🌍

At Hope House, we are proud to celebrate Refugee Week and this year’s theme, “Courage Brings Change.”

Every day, we see the incredible resilience, strength, and determination of people who have overcome immense challenges. Many individuals who once experienced street homelessness and sought support through Hope House have gone on to become valued volunteers across both of our projects, giving back to the community that supported them.

Their journeys remind us that with compassion, opportunity, and courage, lives can be transformed and communities can grow stronger together.

Join us on Thursday 18th June, 1pm–3pm at Hope House as we celebrate the stories, contributions, and achievements of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

Together, we can build understanding, create belonging, and inspire change.

Known for their brilliant Friday brekkies and friendly faces, they help make our sessions welcoming for everyone!James has been volunteering with us for nearly 2½ years, while Mark has quickly become a valued member of the team over the last couple of months.

This week we’re shining a light on our wonderful Wednesday volunteer, Ian!

Ian has been part of our journey for an incredible six years, dating all the way back to our original days on Church Street. Throughout that time, he has been a constant, reliable presence and a valued member of our community!

Whether he’s brewing up teas and coffees, tackling the dishes, or simply offering a friendly face and helping hand, Ian is always there when needed. His dedication, consistency, and willingness to pitch in wherever required make a real difference every Wednesday!

Thank you, Ian, for your six years of commitment, hard work, and support. We’re incredibly grateful to have you as part of the team and community!🩵

✨🩵Volunteer Spotlight: Abdou🩵✨

A huge thank you to Abdou for his incredible dedication. In April he volunteered 70 hours, followed by 60 hours in May, giving a fantastic 130 hours in just two months!!!🩵✨

To put that in to perspective the National Living Wage, this time would be worth around £1,750 but the real value lies in his kindness, commitment, and willingness to give back!🩵✨

Meet Our Tuesday Volunteers!

Today, we’re celebrating our fantastic Tuesday volunteers:

Derek is well known for his excellent dishwashing and tea-making skills. He is always happy to help wherever needed and has been volunteering with us for 3½ years every Tuesday and Thursday!

Neil, our dedicated chef, also volunteers every Wednesday. He has been supporting us for 2½ years, helping to provide meals and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone!

Desmond assists both Derek and Neil with whatever is needed. He also supports our service users with laundry and helps ensure shower supplies and other essential items are ready and available!

A huge thank you to Derek, Neil, and Desmond for their hard work, commitment, and the difference they make to our community every week!🩵

Fish, chips, mushy peas, chats and a brew… you can’t beat it ☕🐟🍟

Today’s meal was prepared by our brilliant volunteer Rick. What makes Rick’s story extra special is that he once accessed both of our services during a difficult season in his life.

Now he’s giving back, supporting others, and showing just how powerful community, hope, and a second chance can be.

Life is looking good for Rick, and we’re so proud to have him as part of the team. Proof that with the right support, brighter days really do come. 💙
