🎓🚤 PASS-OUT DAY! 🚜🎓

A huge congratulations to three of our St Bees RNLI volunteers who have successfully completed their latest training and exams! 👏🏼

🚤 ADAM & MIKEY - TIER 2 CREW

This marks another step forward in their development as volunteer lifeboat crew. They are now competent in taking on a greater range of operational duties, building their skills and experience to help keep our crews and casualties safe at sea. 🌊

🚜 BRADLEY - TRACTOR DRIVER

As our newest tractor driver, Bradley has a pretty important job - safely launching & recovering our lifeboat from the beach, manoeuvring the boat and trailer in often challenging conditions and getting everyone where they need to be safely.

Three achievements, one brilliant team.

📟 28.09.26 - 21:17 - Launch ILB 📟

Last night our crew were tasked by Belfast Coastguard to assist in the search of a person potentially in the water at Whitehaven Harbour.

Our lifeboat ‘Irene Cornford’ was fully crewed and in the water by 21:30.
The lifeboat crew conducted a search along the coast including the Saltom Bay Area.
Crews were stood down at 22:05 as the person was found safe by the police.

📟 03.09.26 - 11:40 - CREW ASSEMBLE 📟

Our second pager alert of the day.

St Bees RNLI were tasked to assist Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team with a casualty who had fallen while walking their dog on the beach and sustained a back injury.

Our crew assisted with safely transferring the casualty into a stretcher and carrying them up the beach to a waiting ambulance, where they were handed over to the care of paramedics.

After a busy period for the station, our thanks go to all the emergency services and partner agencies involved, who helped to achieve two positive outcomes that day.

📟 03.09.26 - 02:07 - LAUNCH ILB 📟

In the early hours of Thursday morning, our crew were tasked to assist a yacht approximately half a mile off Whitehaven Harbour.

The lock keeper at Whitehaven Marina had contacted the Coastguard with concerns for the solo yachtsman, fearing that he may have fallen overboard.

Upon arrival, our crew found the yachtsman aboard, safe but exhausted after trying to recover his anchor in rough seas. They assisted him in recovering the anchor, after which the yacht was able to make its way safely into the marina.

Due to the sea state and weather conditions, our lifeboat remained moored in Whitehaven Harbour overnight and was recovered the following day.

Thank you to the lock keeper for your swift thinking and prompt action.

A massive thank you to everyone who has taken part, cracked the secret message, and supported St Bees RNLI over the summer.

The trail officially wraps up this Sunday evening, so this is your final chance to grab a £2 trail pack (available at St Bees Post Office, Seacote Caravan Park, and the Seacote Hotel) and find all 15 missing wellies before they sail away for good!

Every single penny raised goes straight toward keeping your volunteer lifeboat crew on call day and night to keep people safe at sea.

Each year Michelle creates beautiful greetings cards featuring her own designs 😍

This years design is “Terry the Turtle” and sales of his card have raised £387 along with an anonymous donation of £100. Michelle has kindly shared this equally between ourselves, the Great North Air Ambulance Service & Wasdale Mountain Rescue Service. 🙏🏼

🌊 Training to Save Lives at Sea 🌊

Last week, crew member Alex completed an intensive four-day RNLI Seamanship course at our training facility in Poole.

The course combines theoretical and practical sessions, providing crew with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to make the most of their stations lifeboat and its equipment when responding to incidents at sea.

Training covered a range of essential skills, including effective communication, ropework, mooring and berthing, person recovery, towing, anchoring and veering, emergency drills, basic boat handling, VHF etiquette and Locate and Assist exercises.

Alex said: "The four-day course at Poole was both physically and mentally exhausting; however, I am now much more confident in carrying out these operations should I ever need to use them to help keep our coastline safe."
