Footpath Diversion in Tregargus Valley

Regular walkers in the Valley will be aware that part of the main track has been closed. This is because last month there was a major landslip beside the track between the large beech tree and the mica drag. Not only has some of the bank fallen down the slope, there is also a significant crack very close to the track so further subsidence is highly likely. We are very grateful that Imerys acted swiftly to close the track for safety reasons. They also arranged for a geotechnical engineer to survey the area and initial indications are that further landslips in that area are likely. As a consequence, and for safety reasons, a section of the track has been closed off until further notice whilst a more detailed survey is completed and plans are made to stabilise the area.

We are very lucky that rather than close the Valley to the public we have been able to create a footpath diversion round the dangerous section. This starts by the beech tree and returns to the track near the mica drag. This diversion has only been made possible by the brilliant support and help we have received from Imerys, in particular Jeremy Elvins and his team. They have very quickly put in place handrails and steps at either end of the diversion which means people can continue to walk in and enjoy the Valley. This diversion is likely to be in place for several months.

If you are walking in the woods please use the diversion and respect the fact that the fencing on the track is in place to keep you safe. We have already had 1 incident of vandalism where the fence was pushed down. This puts the culprit in danger and potentially endangers other members of the public. Imerys were very quick to create the diversion so that the Valley could remain open and we are very appreciative of their support.
