This summer's offerings are bolstered by the annual Rye Arts Festival film, Dunkirk, with scenes filmed locally, and starring John Mills. It will be screened on Wednesday 23rd September at 7pm (doors 6.30) Tickets are £15 each from www.ryeartsfestival.org.uk

Friday 4th September – WILDING (2023 – 72 minutes)(cert. PG)
Based on the best-selling book by Isabella Tree, this is the story of a young couple that bets on the future of their failing four-hundred-year-old estate. They battle entrenched tradition and dare to place the fate of their farm in the hands of nature. Ripping down fences they set the land back to the wild and trust its recovery to a motley mix of animals, both tame and wild. Beginning as a grand experiment it becomes one of the most significant rewilding schemes in Europe. 'Wonderful and inspiring' – The Guardian.

From the team behind 'Finding Your Feet' and 'Fisherman's Friends' comes Mother's Pride, a story about the Harley family who after losing their matriarch, must come together to save their pub and village through the art of beer-brewing. Staring Martin Clunes. (7pm start, doors 6.30)

Based on Helen MacDonald's best-selling book, the film follows Helen (Claire Foy), who, after the sudden death of her father (Brendan Gleeson), loses herself in the memories of their time together birding and exploring the natural world. She adopts Mabel, a wild goshawk and trains her to hunt and to fly free, helping her to negotiate her profound grief at her loss. But as she concentrates all her energy and attention on Mabel, she discovers how deeply she has neglected her own emotions and life. What begins as an act of endurance transforms into an intimate journey of resilience and healing. (7pm start, doors 6.30)

But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentments that's ignited when Theo's professional dreams come crashing down 'The marriage isn't big enough for the both of them'. Starring two of the biggest British actors of our day, as usual giving great performances. (7pm start, doors 6.30)

Can you help? We are looking for help set up and run our regular Friday shows, we have a core team who do a wonderful job, but are inevitably away for some of the time. Please let us know if you could spare some time to help keep the show on the road, it's not difficult and full training will be given!

We have three new British films on offer as we move from Spring into Summer., one period drama, one modern domestic drama and one about the dramatic relationship between a bereaved woman and a hawk.
Friday 1st May – HAMNET (2025 – 125 minutes)(cert. PG13)

After her son Hamnet dies, aged eleven, Agnes Shakespeare is struck with intense grief. as she mourns with her husband William, the pair struggling to come to terms with the frailty of life and the ruthlessness of the plague. Set in 16th-century England, Agnes, a healer by trade, must find a way to move on with her life and provide for her other children Starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal in this drama, based on the best-selling book with Buckley recently winner an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. From your committee...the new season of films is looking extremely good with some great movies to tempt you out on the first Fridays of the month...with more choice items later in the year.
Friday 6th March – THE LIFE OF CHUCK (2024 – 111 minutes) (cert. R). This is 'a life-affirming, genre-bending story about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz'. Starring Tom Hiddleston, recently seen in the BBC TV thriller The Night Manager. The film is praised for its deep, thought-provoking themes about life, death and human connection. The film's unique reverse chronological structure and its exploration of existential questions are frequently highlighted. (7pm start, doors 6.30).

Friday 3rd April – THE CHORAL (2025 – 113 minutes) (cert. R)

A choral society's male members enlist in World War I, leaving the demanding Dr. Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) to recruit teenagers. Together, they experience the joy of singing while the young boys grapple with their impending conscription into the army. Also starring Roger Allum and Alun Armstrong. With a screenplay written by Alan Bennett, you can be sure of a fine script. (7pm start, doors 6.30).

Following on from last years popular series of films, on Monday 12 January Mike Hatchard presents a piano accompaniment of the silent Buster Keaton film, Balloonatics, along with two Sherlock Holmes shorts at Rye Community Centre, doors open 2.30pm, show starts at 3pm.

If you've never seen a silent film on a large screen (and many haven't) this is the perfect introduction to the genre. The live music makes all the difference, Mike Hatchard has a rare ability to pick up on the mood of the audience and really take it somewhere. The perfect way to spend a Monday afternoon. Friday 2nd January – THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND (2025 – 99 minutes)(cert. 12a)
An eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island tries to make his fantasies come true by getting his favorite musicians to reunite and perform at his home. Many years after the duo went their seperate ways, Charles Heath (Tim Key) entices them to perform for him withut telling them the other was coming too! Also starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden, who co-wrote the story with Key. “Charming and heartwarming” (doors 6.30) 7pm start.
